at the moment with the fashion world? It's been very quiet(as in no catwalks/fashion week etc)....

What do the models do when they are not strutting their stuff down the catwalk?

(i hope i posted in the right place)

Eat Bons Bons!! :buzz:

I'm just kidding. I don't really know. I'll let one our experts answer this one ;)

photoshoots...!!
magazines, catalogs, ads, commercials...etc...

designers are getting ready for the next run of shows...
pr people are promoting the current one...
salepeople are selling.....
buyers are buying...
shippers are shipping...

fashion shows are a tiny blip on the fashion calendar...
;)

eh...that's a matter of opinion...
some are...some are quite boring and even tiresome...

i prefer shoots to shows...
anyday...

Right now the shoots for the fall magazines are going on. That's really the main thing. Magazines are shooting the editorials that will carry them through December. The fall ad campaigns have already been shot. And the designers and their teams are working on spring 2006.

softgrey: I don't work in the fashion industry, so I think we might have very different perspectives. As an outsider the fashion shows are the first look at the new collections and an opportunity to see all the models in one place, and that I always find very interesting. Myself, I've been to a few Paris shows and that's about it. I guess it's very different when you're in the middle of it? :flower:

sure...olga...
if it was strictly a spectator sport for me...i might like the shows more...
:flower:...

just what softie & m.o.m said, designers are very busy with ss06 season at the moment

and..hmm lets not forget the resort collections.. this is the big 'fashion thing' right now and i'm certainly looking forward to get the first taste for next summer

many models don't even do runway.. i know some of the bigger ones are quitting it because of the anxiety.. runways are very scary.. no matter how many times the models walk on them they don't get too much easier to do.. the shoes can be terrifying sometimes.. and if you fall or mess up terribly..the designer may not book you again and everyone hears about it! or at least you feel like everyone is hearing about it! victoria's secret isn't really a "designer" but its runway is very well-known for the general public and heck, densel washington sits in the front row. it's extremely nerve-racking and the sequins on the catwalk mixed with the 4-inch heels make it slippery enough for any of the models to fall!

there are plenty of other things models do in their spare time, though they have some months that are much slower than others. usually there will be a brief period of no work at all but just castings to attend and then all of a sudeen BAM work work work work.. mainly catalogue/editorials/campaigns/and even test shoots. all the in-between time is full of self-mantainance, castings, and go-sees (which means a TON of walking)..and talks with the agency..attempting to eat right..working out..and figuring out where they are traveling next.. as glamourous as the image of modeling is.. its actual rating on a glamour scale is equivalent to about 2.

Examples?

Thanks for replying all! I don't really know much about the fashion industry so its made it much clearer, and even though my profile says I do, well I work in a clothes shop! Thats fashion!! Martinionrox what do you do? Are you a model?

I also want to take this opportunity to ask Softgrey a few questions if you dont mind replying..considering you dont reply to my PM's you may not want to answer. I completely understand if that is the case...

1. how did you get into the fashion industry?
2. who have you 'dressed up'( you are a stylist right?)?
3. do you know any famous people?

cant think of any more at mo

How far in advance do they typically shoot the editorials and ads? I wouldnt have guessed tthey are already working on the holiday stuff. And by the way, which months are considered the most important months? holidays seem one of the obvious ones.

adds are shot as soon as the concept is ready, so they can re-shoot to their heart's desire ..
holiday/resort is whats really 'happening' at the moment, will be followed by the ss06 showrooms in June/July

as far as editorial...
it may vary...
but the average is shooting three months ahead...
the big months for editorial are the new seasons...
sept and march...thosee are all the new trends and collections and the heaviest advertising months...
that's why they are always the biggest issues...

missy-regarding personal questions about me...
if you take a look at the stylist section you'll see more...
i went to FIT and it all went from there...
i don't think it's appropriate to discuss specific clients/jobs in this kind of public forum...;)...
descretion and professionalism is an important part of the job...

i'll mention stuff if it comes up and is relevant...
but name-dropping is pretty tacky imho... :ninja:
:innocent:
