Moderators, please go ahead and delete if something like this already exists.

But, I thought it would be worthwhile to start a thread to celebrate, discuss, debate, and share updates on designers who have dropped out of the fashion conversation.

Like, for starters, whatever happened to...

Anne Sofie Back?
Bernhard Willhelm?
Dirk Bikkembergs?
Bruno Pieters?
Damir Doma?
Mary Katrantzou?

This is what happened to Bernhard Willhelm. No news of him after this.

Does anyone know what happened to Faustine Steinmetz? I used to really admire her work...

I know he moved his operation back to Paris after working out of LA but I haven't heard much of anything about him since. I just checked his website and he's got a new collection for SS 22 but it seems like no one is covering it.

Marco Zanini & Peter Copping, I like their short stay at Schiaparelli and ODLR!

I would be curious to hear where Hussein Chalayan went after he put his collection on halt. Is he looking to open it again or consulting elsewhere for the time being? Likewise, I do wonder where Veronique Branquinho went after he liscensing deal with Gibo ended and her mainline collection was closed.

Adding a few more names...

Jay Ahr and Hakaan, who were contemporaries of Anthony Vaccarello and had a similar sexy-girl aesthetic.
Bouchra Jarrar
Umit Benan
Anne Valerie Hash, part of a new wave of young couturiers in the early aughts

I wonder what happened to Tim Coppens + Robert Geller. I'm probably the only one here who enjoyed their menswear.

I would ask whatever happened to damn near every menswear designer from NY, but...I won't.

(And yes, there's definitely a duplicate thread from yesteryear, but good luck trying to find it.)

- Stefano Pilati?
- Alessandra Facchinetti?

I liked Tim's work! I interviewed him once and he's a super cool, easygoing guy. Don't quote me on this but I believe he's back working at Ralph Lauren? I could be totally wrong but I thought I gleaned that somewhere.

Here's what I know about the rest:

Patrik Ervell: Closed his line and was hired to be design director of Vince menswear out in LA. He JUST recently left and plans are unknown.

Tim Hamilton: Closed his line and is now the creative director of The North Face.

Scott Sternberg: After selling Band of Outsiders, he made a comeback with a lower-priced J.Crew/Everlane-esque label called Entireworld. It recently closed due to the pandemic. He's now a creative entrepreneur for hire.

Adam Kimmel: Closed his line. Living fabulously and lurking around in the art world with his wife, Leelee Sobieski.

- Stefano Pilati?
On Pilati:

After designing Zegna and Agnona for a few seasons, he moved to Berlin and became the city's unofficial fashion guru/kook. He had started his own contemporary-priced, Italian-made label called Random Identities which was good but very disjointed and poorly marketed and I think Pilati himself is prone to distraction. He's pretty interconnected with the city's two other fashion entities, GmbH and 032c magazine.

I remember Christian Lacroix being the height of fashion in the late 80s. I don't think he's ever stopped working in some capacity - I think he does costume design now? - but he's never been regarded with the same fervour as he once was.

He co-designed a collection with Dries Van Noten not too long ago.
