Whatever Happened to... ?

I would ask whatever happened to damn near every menswear designer from NY, but...I won't.
This comment just made me realize that New York and its fashion week doesn't have any exclusively menswear designers (gender ambiguous amoebae don't count) and London is starting to gradually phase out their menswear designers too.

Also, whatever happened to Narciso Rodriguez? Is he happy to just keep his fragrance business running or is he moving somewhere/looking to re-launch his label?

He's actually been designing and running a pretty successful business this entire time. He's distanced himself from the typical fashion circuit and stopped doing shows but he's designing a more streamlined collection and his business has never been healthier.

How exactly does his business look like at the moment - Does he do made-to-order, similar to Olivier Theyskens? Because there hasn't been an update on his website and instagram since 2020, so I'm wondering how his business can thrive without much visibility as of a good while.

It's RTW. He's got his accounts and he's got his customers and that's all he needs.

Mind you, Alaia had a hugely successful business without showing, too.

John Galliano?
the is not a lot of marketing around him.

Narciso was too good for New York…he’s true to himself and has his own voice. I do miss his shows.

Anne Valerie Hash is one that interests me too, she’s largely forgotten but her shows were the epitome of the mother-earth-meets-Victorian style of the early-00s.

John Galliano has the creative director position at Margiela, but I feel that he might be replaced in the next couple of years. The label hasn't done a show since 2020, its last collection was last year and their seem a refocus on more archival styles and MM6.
His eponymous brand, however, presented its last show under Bill Gaytten in October 2018. Since then, it's been converted into a midmarket streetwear brand.

This thread depresses me, is there no-one that survived the noughties? I'll add Gaspard Yurkievich, Bernadette Corporation, Alexandre Matthieu to the list

We do have Olivier Theyskens, albeit on a much smaller scale. He doesn't do shows nor does he scream as loud as the generation after him, but business seems to be doing well for him. His tenure at Azzaro seems to be decently received too, but the digital strategy needs an overhaul.

I don't know whether it's the right place to ask this question, but does anyone know why resort 2023 seems to be already delayed? Usually the collections were revealed in May/June and all we've got this year so far is a bunch of smaller brands, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

Perhaps they'll show adjacent to the Menswear calendar. IDK...

Christopher Decarnin please come back, we don't need hoodie designers right now.

He was at Faith Connexion. Then he left and according to their Insta, he is back. Not sure if it's just a capsule or not.

Gaspard Yurkievich is still very active and is designing for a new label he created along with Guido Voss called VPLUSY.

Thuy Pham from Bernadette corporation went on to start United Bamboo with Miho Aoki.
