Hi

What do you think are the most challenging surfaces / weather conditions to walk in whilst wearing high heels and why?

I personally find polished marble floors quite a challenge, very slippery!

Yeah, i would agree there! I've had quite a few incidents with my heels on snow and ice! It's very good fun tho!!

What experiences do you have with your heels in snow / ice?

the bumpy ceramic stone tiles that encompass the 4 city blocks of the Embarcadero Center in SF. That's where I work, and its impossible to walk in heels around there. I love to laugh at women walking in stillettos (especially when those tiles are wet) they look like they've never worn heels before!:woot:

Any cobbled type paving does it for me! You can be happily walking along, minding your own business and then, out of nowhere, a cobbled path appears, to ruin your day and make you walk like you desperately need the toilet :D. My other pet hate is if you get your high spikes caught in a hole, and they actually stick in and you lose the shoe, so not a good look :)

Gravel driveways. It's not too hard to balance and make reasonable forward progress, but you've got to be either tiptoe (with the individual stones poking you mercilessly:doh: ) or risk tearing the covering clear off your heels. It's the only excuse for those steel heels!

Oh gosh, when I walk into the lobby of any hotel, those polished marble floors are a disaster zone for heels... I always tend to grab on someone when I walk in...and don't ask me when im not sober...

Boardwalks, wooden decks.

I also agree about the gravel. On my way to work, I have to walk through a parking lot with large patches of concrete rubble poking into the sole of my heels- ravaging them I'm sure!

Tiled Pavement with cracks and gaps, i always get my heel stuck in newcastle gah, i have very little dignity left because of those damn tiled streets

For me its that commercial carpet, its soo flat I always slip on that kind of carpet

wooden outside flooring (teak wood decks ) and wothout a doubt wet lawn ! :ninja:

I second the wet lawn. There's nothing worse that having your heels sink into wet grass :yuk:

I always stick rubber grips on the bottom of my shoes, even- especially -the expensive designer ones. Youd think manolo blahnik would have the courtesy of a little grip on the bottom- i mean the leather type sole looks good, but you cant strus properly if your feet keep slipping.

and how about a little padding under the ball of the foot? even a little would help

try rubbing (white) candle wax on the bottom of your shoes, like a surfer would wax his board - those stick-on grips peel off and look like you stepped in doo-doo when they get old.

polished and waxed hardwood, marble tile, laminate fake hardwood...ice...

I thought I was the only one who slid around in her heels on some of these surfaces! I like the wax suggestion, I had considered something like thin stick-on felt ( get it in colours to match the soles of the shoes, but it would also peel off I suppose ) however the wax thing is ingenious

I always wonder how celebrities manage...dont see many paparazzi shots of them sliding about in heels....and we probably would if there were any?

Seems like candle wax would be slippery....

Definitely the marble floors. I might go to a comedy show at the AfAm musuem on friday, and that's the first thing that popped into my head--those crazy marble floors! And if its raining, its impossible, you will fall on your ***. HATE navigating marble in heels.:(
