Which Countries Need Vogue?

^yes, that´s true but in some countries -like Argentina- the important Vogues (US, Italia, Paris) are ridiculous expensive so reprints come in handy when you want to see in print a fav model or just admire up close the clothes. Vogue Mexico reprints editorials from Vogue Korea and Nippon, those I can´t even get in my country regardless of price.

It would be neat to have an Israeli Vogue, I would love to see how that would look

After traveling to Israel myself, I think that an Israeli Vogue would be cool in concept, but I don't know about reality. To me Israel has such a huge streetstyle culture that I don't know how that would translate to Vogue. Maybe V^_^

I have to say I agree as well. A lot of them have sub-standard content or just reprint editorials/content from other Vogue issues :innocent:

I agree. But we have to understand them. License Vogues have little support than Vogue countries where direct Conde Nast.

In terms of Africa, part of me thinks that if there existed the market to sustain an international fashion magazine across the entire continent, there would already be an Elle - a brand that's slightly more general interest than Vogue and which has no problem operating at different geographical scales (there are Elle editions in tiny countries with localised content but also ones which cover huge territories with generalised content).

There is an Elle South Africa, but no pan-African edition. There hasn't been any progress from that point. Yet why not an Elle Morocco, if L'Officiel can produce an edition? It makes me wonder where Elle will next launch an issue.

It seems like they've given up on Australia, yet even if we say the market is crowded there, the idea that Elle died while Vogue, Marie Claire, Cosmo etc live on, points to uninspired handling of the magazine rather than there being no place for it whatsoever. Perhaps not too profitable now to relaunch a print edition even in the best of circumstances.

tigerrouge, there is already an ELLE arabic edition. I think the redaction is in Lebanon and it publish in all arabics countries.
I think it will be great to have an arabic issue from VOGUE (Middle East or North Africa) because there is a lot of talented designers from this part of the world who should be known.
I read on a newspaper that publisher CondéNast (Vogue publisher) refused the edition from Middle East because they think they are not really open minded for receive this sort of magazine. I don't understand because there is L'OFFICIEL Middle East so why not VOGUE ???

There are too many Vogues as it is & license Vogues are the worst, with the exception of Vogue Australia.

You deffently have a point, Israel does seem to have more of a streetstyle culture although instead of a Israeli Vogue they could have something like Elle, Nylon, V, or create their own big Fashion magazine.

More Vogues is not neccessary, they would only just copy content from other versions, like they already do...

^ Ideally that should not happen.. instead, having a Vogue not only would expose readers to the international, cream of the crop side of fashion but also serve as a platform for national creators, encouraging them to consume them and help keeping them around, very much like US Vogue does every month.. that's when having a Vogue in a country with a raising fashion scene is necessary in my opinion, cause it's such a broad, widely known publication that even people completely indifferent to fashion quickly recognize and bother to flip through when they want to be in the know.. it's synonym of fashion as much as I hate to admit it.. a smaller, more independent or slightly conceptual magazine is hard for people to identify or take seriously when they have nothing to refer to.. it's unfortunate but, that's the way it is.

To me, the only current problem is either the ridiculously limited budget some Vogues must be in, totally unable to produce their own content, or the lack of control in the creative direction coming from Conde Nast, are they really just lending their name in order to make profit not caring who's in charge, what he's selling Vogue as (cheap marie claire, trashy socialité/celebrity newspaper replica or design student amateur project) or the ways they can integrate local fashion so the magazine can develop a realistic identity and stay relevant for their readers who have needs that are not the same as the next country.. is having Vogue available at all (creative) costs just everything that matters?. Those are my concerns, and I think the answer for all of them must be rather depressing.

Vogue is such a well known name that for countries which need to create more of a fashion scene it would be great for them to create their own countries version of it.

That's so sweet to hear :) And yes, we do have some great designers and street style culture. But sadly, the fashion industry here doesn't get much support from the government, it's even kinda proclaimed "unprofitable", so I doubt magazines like Vogue would care to release a local Israeli version.

I don't see how the fashion industry in Israel could be unprofitable, honestly the country has some great designers who could really benefit from exposure, such as in the form of a popular magazine. Also if you don't mind me asking, Aime, I would love to know what magazines are popular in Israel, I've tried finding more online but rather unsucessfully.

Denmark. or Sweden. Sweden is so stylish and has so good street style and cool brands.

Honestly? None. There's too many Vogues around and a lot of them are so messy. Let's hope the reanimated corpse of Vogue Hellas will prove me wrong.
