Spacemiu, thank you for the trouble to direct me to that LA Times article. You're very generous with your time and advice, and you have given me insight into an issue of significance to me. Having moved here just 4 years ago from Manhattan, where I lived my life and was surrounded by fashion forward women, it was a serious shock when my marriage dissolved to look around and try to understand the style difference from Manhattan.
Yes, Ventura is a really nice street, and until recently I don't think I could have said that. But I'm happy here in the Valley, and I think I would only move out closer to the ocean. But then, there would be no coffee shops, except the Literati, delis, etc.
Also, I'm pushing 50, and that makes life harder here. What would you advise as a daily wardrobe for a guy in the business--a producer--who meets with A lawyers and various sharks, and attends the occasional A party, as I gather you do?
My uniform is basically as follows: Brooks Brothers polos, Gap standard jeans which have a good medium rise (I'm 6'2" and 205), and shoes like leather Pumas, Harley boots and Vans. I alternate the polos with my collection of Evisu t's, standard Old Navy t's, Mainland Chinese t's sent to me by a friend in Wuhan, and this season Old Navy's nice comfy athletic polos with faded numbers. I'm also breaking out for this winter my fabulous Robert Comstock heavy black leather bomber jacket bought at Barney's on 17th Street in 1987, which is naturally worn and wonderful.
Would you assess all this and perhaps make some suggestions on some not expensive signature pieces that would differentiate me? I look younger than my age, but can't dress young, of course. I can pitch a script to a director or actor in a t and jeans--nobody cares--but I like to leave them talking not only about the idea--I want them excited about me.
