Why do you like / hate Lanvin?

I love Lanvin because Alber makes beautiful clothes...it's as simple as that really.

His recent spring collection totally revived my love for what he does at Lanvin (his s/s and f/w 05 collections were somehow a bit less interesting than some of his earlier work at the house) But s/s 06 really added something new to the Lanvin identity, it was a bit sexier, a bit harder and very clean. Overall, very refreshing not to see ribbons of pearls and circle skirts.

I totally and completely agree...the s/s 06 line really was what made me fall in love with Lanvin. I think the elegance of the clothing and they way it perfectly fits a woman's body is remarkable. I also think that out of all of the designers who tried to create the pencil skirt with the colared shirt and tie this season, Lanvin pulled it off the most. Plus, I LOVE the french woman style!!

Lanvin is sophisticated elegant and classy i love it they have the cutest flats i have about 4 pair of them! i also love the frangrace smells pretty

I think I haven't bothered developing an opinion, or I just can't state one so assuredly, because I find Lanvin completely likeable... and yet, I've hardly reserved a pedestal for Elbaz...

I like when he teeters on the edge between dressy and casual. As in:

I guess that's what Lanvin is to me, at its best: glamour, at ease with itself...

But there are the bad points, for example, I was considering bringing this one in for comic relief:

just updating on what i've seen lately.
meg is right. the clothes are way too expensive. sometimes, i ignore that part, but it's very important. having said that, i always find that a lot of lanvin on sale (mind you holt renfrew buys a lot of lanvin).

but this season, the summer sale and all, i found hardly any on the sale rack. mostly the so-so resort stuff. the s/s shift dressses, and all those wonderful origami folds, and kimonos were gone. i'm glad to see it's finally selling better.

I only noticed recently some interesting details (through the flourishes & finery thread), like darts placed on the outside and accented with beads, and a few dresses with pleats but made in different fabrics, some metallic and others transparent
i read in an interview that he works with all the people he's worked with in couture, so they all have this couture sensibility in design, i suppose
So, anyway i'm on the prowl for Lanvin these days

I know next to nothing about the actual history of Lanvin but judging just from the recent collections I can say that the older 2004/2005 Lanvin was a lot better than the recent stuff. Nowadays its just really boring, generic fashion. And I cant stand Lanvin's campaigns, they're weird. 5/10 for me.

Lanvin is geared towards professional women mainly, in my opinion. By "professional," I mean someone who is actually expected to dress nicely for their job. The nice thing about the brand is that they're aware of the fact that women don't go outside wearing sheer shirts or layered ball gowns, that we have to get from point A to B without tripping on our clothes or getting our pouf sleeves caught on an object.

That being said, I don't think I could afford one Lanvin piece (on sale or not), so it's definitely not geared towards the "poor" woman.

I loved what Alber is doing for Lanvin from the very begining.
The clothes are feminine,elegant and beautiful but very creative too,never boring
