why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

I dont like him anymore!...(except His Mouse shoes )

His Collections bores me lately.......

Not to mention the awful thing that he's been doing,Designing tacky Bags for LV:yuk:

oh puh-lease
i despise Marc Jacobs to the fullest...but then again no can can deny his genius, when i mean genius i mean he built an empire of pure crap and has a sturdy fan base.
He enjoys sending garbage down the runways and watching people call it "stunning" blah just because if they disagree LVMH will pound them with an iron fist (protecting there lucrative baby mr.jacobs)
anywho i think that even when he does come out with "good" or passable designs ...they where mad by one of his 20 assiastants
since hes such a little diva to break a sweat
and besides i knew someone that worked with him once,
that was when he was....
not much of a dramaqueen

i dont live marc jacobs because most of his clothes are boring and overpriced...

oh and every girl in my school thinks wearing marc by marc jacobs is the chicest thing. they think m by mj is couture or something. ew

In Defense of MJ

I've not been a big fan of Marc Jacobs ever since I read the article/interview in which he said that he wasn't interested in menswear and doesn't really do anything with his menswear collections (including his eponymous label and for LV). He has a design team do it for him. His women's wear collections are interesting, but I've stopped taking much interest in his menswear for this reason. If a designer doesn't really feel attuned or "interested" in a particular segment of the market, then why is he putting things out under his name in that market?

For example, you don't see Manolo Blahnik releasing watches or handbags or inkpens or wallpaper because he only likes designing shoes.

Just my opinion, though. And I will admit that the design team does some interesting work, however, but I've not bought much beyond the inexpensive benefit tshirt he did for Cancercare a few years ago.

John,

I can completely understand your viewpoint, and considering the mans POV, I myself can agree with you disheartment. Although I don't believe it's the most ethical of MJ to put his name on the blood, sweat and tears of the assistant designers, he admited to the in the "Butt Magazine" article below. However, from a Lady's perspective, Marc Jacobs is relevant, fresh (in American Design). His signature style proves his savvy in both Art and Fashion history, concurrently his referencing of several iconic (style and political) movements in Fashion prove his dedication to the art of fashion. So, no I do not believe that MJ is being Noble by vehemently agreeing to the notion that he abhors menswear (and fashionable men), but his design eye keeps both lines consistent with one another.

I find his recent designs to be really dissapointing. I feel like all he's trying to push the envelope and be different. He should also think about what looks good and what he likes.

i think he's very talented, but i feel like his m by mj stuff has pretty much stagnated and tends to look the same every season. a lot of it just looks very DRAB (i'm not a fan of paying $100 for a faded black top with little design merit) and gaudy at the same time - i loved it back in 2000-01 when it was "prettier" and just so much fun - stuff that i wanted to buy and wear. also, a lot of it just is not flattering at all anymore.

the quality has totally gone downhill too.

his bags and shoes are quite nice, but not my style at all. :innocent:

to his credit, he's is probably a very busy man.

i dont HATE marc but i jus think he is over sensationalized. on the runway his collections are always viewed to be ground breaking and amazing. but for me once you get them out of all that hype the look like expensive versions of things you can get at your local thrift store. pretty tops, granny jackets, leather bags. nothing terribly modern or new. just styled different each time.

but i guess a lot of girls can relate to his whole "downtown hipster" look (even though you can get similar things at urban outfitters...).

Marc's mainline collection is the only one in New York that speaks on a global label when concerning trends. He explores new shapes and silhouettes. Fabric treatments and construction. That's admirable. But true his menswear leaves much to be desired. I saw some of his clothes before he started moving out of lady like and honestly, ladylike is boring. sure some of his clothes are ugly but he makes an effort to push ideas in NY. LV is a different story though I lived the spring collection. Bags are ok and classic and I like the treatments done to the new bags simply cause I love textile technology.

Although I commend him for trying new things and often succeeding, I really dislike that some of his less great designs, the ones with unattractive silhouettes that look like they were formulated to specifically show what an innovative designer he is, get hyped simply because he is Marc Jacobs.

HATE it ... Every season looks the same, Every brand he work on look same....

I like Marc, but I agree with those of you who said he's really targeted for the younger generation. I mean, he really has a specific client in mind...the Sofia Coppola, 'Virgin Suicides' esk girl... I also think his stuff from a few years ago was much better than his newer stuff. I got a beautiful Marc by Marc distressed leather Faridah bag from blue fly, because it was on sale for like $260 (regularly $450), and while I love it, I would have never paid $450 for it. I also kind of hate how he's like the "latest craze". What I love about fashion is when you find a really special piece by a good designer, you walk around feeling like you have treasure in your posession.....it's just not the same when every other girl on the street has it too, and that's kind of the case right now, especially with Marc by Marc.

Wasn't he really the first to start the "tent dress" phase that has hit H&M's and Forever 21's everywhere?

I hate Marc because of this Louis Vuitton Tribute bag worn by Beyonce.......at $42000??????
Such a waste of money!!!
Well, Not that beyonce care obviously!!She either have a really bad taste or she got it for free!!
Judging from her whole outfit,it could be both!!^_^
Oh...I'm sooo bad!:ninja:

I don't like the clothes but i always fall in love with the sun glasses and some of the bags...but the shoes are a little too Chuncky and heavy looking for me

I hate that he's overhyped. Sure, he hits it right once in a while, but just because his name is on something does not make it gold! And it drives me insane how all the "trendy" teenagers at my school think Marc Jacobs is the answer to everything.

I love Marc because of his creativity and his ability to work under deadlines and lots of pressure every single season.

I don't like Marc because he's a smoker. He exercises and eats right yet.... he's addicted =[

this season's bags are great

I agree that Marc Jacobs is a bit overhyped sometimes. I heard from someone that worked with him that he is actually not a nice person. I like the marc by marc leather bags this season, they remind me of chloe bags, which i adore. The dresses/coats are cute, but overall the clothes are a little too grunge for me.

he looks sssooooo diff from how he used to.

You go, girl!
A very nude Marc Jacobs is on the cover of the new September issue of Out magazine.
If we had an amazing body like the design darling’s, we’d never walk out of the door with any clothes on. Naked all the time!
MJ dishes the dirt on the dirt and much much more in the juicy Out interview. Here’s an excerpt!
On blogs:
“I don’t care about all that sh*t. I’m very outspoken and honest. I’m the first to say that I’m gay, that I’m insecure, that I have certain hang-ups, that I’ve been dependent on drugs or alcohol, so I don’t really hide things with the fear that they’re going to be revealed on some blog. You’re going to get a bunch of blogs saying ‘He must be on meth in order to be that skinny compared to 10 months ago,’ but in fact I’m eating a totally organic diet, which has no flour, no sugar, no dairy, and no caffeine, and I lost weight because of that diet and because of a 2 -hour exercise regime seven days a week.”
On the gossip:
“I am sensitive, and it does create problems for me. I mean, there’s part of me that really loves the attention, so there’s that side of it. But the side that’s sad is how much people love that kind of negativity—the bad news—and how that, unfortunately, allows certain people to feel better about their own lives. I think it exists in everyone to a certain extent, and I’m not going to exclude myself. I do sometimes, with my own insecurities, feel better about my abilities when someone else doesn’t do so well, someone I’m envious of.”
On his insecurities:
“…I used to really hate seeing my own reflection in the mirror, and I’m not talking about in a drug- or alcohol-induced state—I mean in general. I just hid behind clothes, and I didn’t really care about what I wore, and I didn’t care about my skin or my hair—I just felt like, There’s nothing more I can do to look more attractive…what’s the point? and believing that, I just avoided having my picture taken.”

How can you not like someone just because they are addicted to cigarettes? Sorry, just seems a little...harsh? It's not like you're sitting next to him eating dinner every night or something.:o
