why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

marc diffusion- good
marc jacobs mainline- overpriced - luckily its the first designer to get heavily discounted in the sales- decent cashmere
marc jacobs for louis vuitton- fantastic- but how much input does he actually have?

I just love his stuff cos it's like finding the best vintages pieces then having them fit properly. He goes off the rails from time to time but then again, EVERYONE does. I guess I'd have to say he's a favourite mainly cos his stuff fits right into my style, and he's certainly not for everyone. His sensibility is exactly the opposite of crap like Versace, and I love him for it.

i  his shoes and that new selma bag is oh so cute! however, his clothes are a hard fit for a lot of women including myself, and some of his pieces feel so contrived, and not in a cool way. As for the man himself...he throws a perty fun party but i've never read a decent interview from him and he is overly hyped. it certainly wasnt sheer talent that got him to this level of success. note to self: make lots of celebrity friends.

I LOVE MARC!!!!!! There are plenty of designers that do that. You cant tell me that each designer is always interested in every aspect of their label. His passion is womens clothes, and he does it really well. He doesnt try to copy and look like other designers you can tell he really designs what he likes. Thats what design teams are for, so that he doesnt have to work out every little detail he can focus on what he likes. Im sure alot of designers feel that way, they just dont voice it because they want the public to think "wow they are just great" Who cares! I dont care if he liked it when he designed it or not, if I think its cute it doesnt matter. Are you buying things that you like or things that Marc Jacobs likes?

He makes some cute things, but it's all copies! nothing originala t all.

I love his tote bags, I have a couple of colours in the blake style, and always feel good carrying them, but I think his clothes are so so expensive. Sharp intake of breath time when it comes to lookikng at the ticket.

i like his shoes, and some things from the marc by marc jacobs line..other than that, i acknowledge it can be quite dull and poorly original.

Don't understand - it's Paris hilton right? And does that mean you like or MJ?

Hate. The avatar has LV monogram as well :yuk:. And I completely agree with you on your previous comment.

I found an excerpt from that interview that I mentioned (it was in the interview for which a link was provided in tfs post about which designers were gay/straight. Anyway, this interview was in Butt magazine):

Excerpt follows:

That National Geographic collection that you did for Louis Vuitton men’s wear this summer, was that your intuition? I love that collection.
MJ: Yeah, me too. You know I’m very happy with the team that does men’s wear for us, with Keith, and with Olivier and Willy and Peter. I sometimes wish I were more involved. but men’s wear is not something I’m really good at. In fact, men’s fashion frightens me. I really find men who are fashionably dressed terribly unsexy. I think fashion is something for women. It’s a terribly ist thing to say, but I just don’t find fashionably dressed men attractive, and men who take too much time in the bathroom and spend too much time on their body, I find a bit poncy and silly. It just doesn’t turn me on. So I let it go to the people who find it a turn-on and who are really passionate about it.
It’s weird to have your name put on the collections they make, isn’t it?
It is. I feel a certain amount of shame. I feel a bit fraudulent in saying that I’ve been doing this men’s wear collection when I haven’t had daily involvement in it. Although I can say very honestly I don’t do every part of the women’s collection, I am involved in every aspect of the women’s collection. But with the men’s, it’s a bit different. I feel like a bit of a fraud, and that’s what’s tough for me. I don’t know what other designers feel, but I just don’t like to pretend that I’m something that I’m not. I’m not superman and I don’t do everything.

So... after reading that... I had a little trouble paying MJ's prices...

This man is ridiculous. His fashions are frilly and so is his personality. Does he not understand that men can have a passion for true fashion? No, because he does not know true fashion, apparently.(Judging from interview) I see no integrity, no aesthetic in his fashion. He just wants women to look and feel 'cute' and make tons of money and advertise.

i thought the lv murakami line collaboration that mj tried to do was great....however, just like everything else lv, it became extremely overhyped, which is what killed it...who wants to spend tons of money on an authentic murakami only to find someone else carrying something similar bought for only a fraction of the price?
i love mj's regular line though, becaues i see his line as 'reworked vintage'...he re-interprets vintage in an interesting way....yes, he is overhyped sometimes (i feel like his accessories collection, particularly bags) is particularly boring, but his clothes are a great youthfulness and girliness that i really adore..

I love Marc because of his mens fragrance, it's sweet and fresh. Did he have any part in that?

i had no idea he doesnt design his mens collections, i dont get some of these designers and the labels head executives, why do they pay these designers so much money for things they dont even do.

i have very strong opinions about those LV bags everyone and their mom carries around. I just dont get their appeal whatsoever. But i'll admit his women's line for LV is really nice sometimes.

Sure, he had a part in it... when he smelled it for the first time at his local department store's fragrance counter, thought it smelled nice, bought a bottle, and then brought it home to be surprised that it had his name on it. ;)

It's not reworked vintage. Nor is it really that interesting. If it were,he would have taken the original pieces and actually done something extraordinary with them. Otherwise their just re-hashed,copied to the t,retro pieces. Nothing is really different about them except the materials and colours.

I feel the same way, he makes some stuff that I absolutely love but it's not anything new and innovative...

I've not been a big fan of Marc Jacobs ever since I read the article/interview in which he said that he wasn't interested in menswear and doesn't really do anything with his menswear collections (including his eponymous label and for LV). He has a design team do it for him.
i had no idea...

Sometimes I think he takes the vintage thing too far and then ontop of that adds a $600 price tag!
But his shoes are adorable and girly. I have never been a fan of any of his purses...

I have always felt, ever since the beginning, that MJ is overrated. His Marc and Marc Jacobs clothes look like old yard sale leftovers. The only thing I own of his is a pair of black faux croc mary jane flats, and even those I bought at a consignment shop.
