Ooh, thanks, Castorpollux. What do you think would be the warmest Northface jacket? I know there are so many different kinds, it's hard to compare...

In the women's line...
Special edition nuptse or hooded nuptse. They have the highest down concentration at 700.

In the men's line...
Quantum nuptse or himalayan parka. They've got 900 fill!

i have a long down coat from bloomie's and the inside is purple and the outside is black...and it's kept me warm for a couple of years now...but i think the best bet is to layer a lot...since i go shopping after work and having to take off a 900 down filled jacket and putting it back on is a pain...i wonder if it's possible to re-stuff down jackets? does anyone know?

I think, to be happy, you're going to need two coats: a stylish one for when the weather isn't too extreme; and a serious, Arctic explorer-type down coat, for when it is.

i think you're quite right about this....
though i was hoping i could find the perfect coat that would fill both functions.....

very helpful to hear from someone living in a similar climate...
and i am sure you are so right about not being the only one temporarily having to 'compromise' style....
i just wish i didn't have to....!!!!!


i am going to check out what nth face offers....
and go back again to see this wool coat i love....
and hopefully i will strike a balance somewhere....

I've seen a few people wear North Face in the midwest, but out east it's everywhere... At my uni, which had a sizeable portion of its student body come from NYC, the North Face nuptse was often used to satirize, stereotype, and label east coasters in a negative light by their midwestern counterparts...
East coasters and midwesterners don't always get along.
Wasn't the case w/me, though (I love everyone).
Just bear in mind that wearing a North Face parka/jacket can carry a stigma with it at times (depending on where you go to school).
Maybe it's just an American thing...

I only use my North Face Nuptse when I REALLY feel like schlepping around.
If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the topcoat...

ok do we have a coat thread?? cause i checked and i couldnt find nething but if there is just add this post to it

so i was thinking we could have all sorts of male and female winter coats posted here...cause im in the caribbean right now and when i go home in december i will need to go winter coat shopping ...so hopefully there will be some cute ideas
even some pics of ur own winter coats would be nice so i can have an idea whats trendy
