Winter coats and jackets

That second pic Hanne posted looks like an invisible person is wearing that coat! :p

I like that Balenciaga one too and also Stella McCartney's dogtooth coat featured in the ads. My other favourite is the Alexander McQueen blanket jacket.

Being in love with 1930's fashion, it's been my dream to have a coat with a huge fur collar. So, naturally I fell in love with these coats from Balenciaga, Costume National, and Christian LaCroix  . I also included a vintage picture. All runway fashions from style.com, vintage from allposters.com.

what a great topic. Coats are the epitome of chic (and epitome of spending money).

All the coats posted thus far are beautiful and all sort of give off a different vibe/image.

Wow, tough call. There were a lot of gorgeous coats on the fall runways.

I totally agree with anyone who chose Balenciaga because I loved every coat they showed.

I narrowed my choices down to my three favorites.

3) Calvin Klein's architectural fur

2) Prada's jet beaded beauty

Warmest coats and jackets

I didn't find a thread on this...

I've been on a quest for a nice coat/jacket for the coldest, snowiest days...

What coats and jackets do you like to wear--both for casual and more dressy occasions--on the coldest of the cold winter days?

:flower:

On the coldest days I'll be wearing my Moncler down jacket, nothing beats a puffy down jacket in the cold. Well, maybe a thick fur.

More formal: darkish blue vintage double-breasted tweed coat or double-breasted black wool Ralph Lauren coat, sort of peacoatish style.

On less cold days, maybe some other winter jacket for variation.

Ooh, I love some of those Mackage coats--never knew of them. And Moncler...tweed...pea coatish...mmm. Fantastic options.

I wear a short belted Sportmax coat (looks like a sci-fi general), and a chocolate floor-sweeping Chloe coat (very medieval monk)...but on the coldest days, neither are totally warm enough w/o layering.

Keep them coming! :flower:

BTW, are down jackets okay in the sleet/rain??

a typical northface down jacket is quite warm.

They can usually take a little bit of light rain, like most materials, but you don't want to get caught in pouring rain. Spraying the jacket with some impregnator would make it a little bit more water resistant, but not waterproof.

That's why I always carry an umbrella in my bag: I have a tiny, light titanium one that folds out to almost regular size, and it fits even in my smallest messenger.

the second coat is baleciaga FW 05, not sure about the other two
