Wow. This is tough. I'd probably go for the Chanel bag. Or I'd buy liposuction and then get an entire Chanel collection. Don't care which one. Any of the Karl Lagerfeld ones.

Your Ultimate Luxury Fashion Item

I've been talking with another TFS member today on PM's and we are very much of the opinion of quality over quantity... I'd so have one cashmere cardi at £300 as oposed to ten at £30...

But it got me thinking... what's your ultimate luxuary fashion purchase??? And why???

Mines is my russian sable fur... I just love the quality and cut... the softness and perfect sleek look of the fur... the feeling I get making me glow and go all warm inside when I sink into the collar or rub my hands through the fur... for me its my ultimate luxuary item... so whats yours and why??? Post a pic!!!

Mire are pretty simple as I'm not much of a fashion plate:

1) Actual: Ari Soffer leather pants. Cost? 4 grand. Am I rich. No. Any regrets? None whatsoever. I love wearing them...I wear them way too much, really.

2) Potential: Chrome Hearts leather pants. Cost about 6-7 grand. Worth it? No idea, but someday I'll know :)

Well I am definitly a quality over quantity person. When I am wearing more expensive clothes (not super expensive though) they always feel great and fit like a glove; like they 'belong' rather than how it feels wearing cheap crap. This makes shopping for clothes very expensive unfortunately and I do one big shop every few months and then put myself on a recovery spending ban.

I don't actually own any item that makes my heart stop when I see it. But if I could have or afford such a thing I would get a big flowy silk dress that has a beautifully printed textile on it.
It is really hard to explain but you know when you see a editorial and the model is usually standing in the wind and she is wearing a dress that has about 10ft of material blowing in the breeze and its all romantic and lovely? Well my dream dress is along these lines. I would never be able to wear it other than for a photo op but every time I wake up and open my closet my heart would jump  I have a pic like this saved on my laptop but no credit so I can't post.

^ Hey I loved your response... That's exactly how I feel about clothes and how I manage my spending too! It's hard especially if you see a few things you would like all at once... but I always just tend to buy the one or two things... I find if I jump into a purchase I often regret it!

I love the fact your item is something you might never even practically wear... just covet!

^^^^ It is funny and a lot of people don't 'get' it but everything I lust over is impractical. Big statement pieces of clothing like a beautiful gown etc. Lanvin have this gorgeous (IMO) tulle skirt that is part of their bridal collection and although I am not getting married or even have 'suitors' I want that skirt because I think it is beautiful.

Once I was at the shops and there was this beautiful little dress that has like delicate lacework on it for a steal so I bought it. Nevermind that it is like 2 sizes too small it is hanging with pride of place in my closet.

I am a bit of a daydreamer by nature so these outfits sort of fit into my 'dreamland' they don't really work on a regualr basis but they do when you are daydreaming

Great thread!

All of my non-fashion friends don't get the concept of having quality over quantity. They are often surprised when they see my closet and how little I actually own, then surprised if they ever figure out how expensive the things I own actually cost.

My latest and most cherished addition is a vintage Gucci by Tom Ford motorcycle jacket from Cruise/Resort 2000. It's 10 years old but still current and in impeccable condition with all the minimal details that I love. I snagged it on eBay for a steal at $650. Original retail was $2,500 and I've spent years looking for a piece from that era in fashion. Sometimes you just know when you see it! I’ve worked for Giorgio Armani for the past 3 years and have acquired quite a bit of pieces that cost substantially more than my Gucci jacket, but they don’t mean as much because I did not always have the privilege of selecting the items nor having to pay for them.

Im actually surprised in a way there is no more people voting for quantity... as reading the forums I would have thought there would be more of a ballance between us... love that so many people go for quality... I think its def the way to go... fashion is all about personal luxuary for me so that's why I always go quality...

That tom ford jacket looks amazing... Im after a pair of UK 5.5 Manolos at the moment... the something blue ones... I've been looking on ebay every day but either they are just plain size 5's or im not convinced they are the real deal... will keep searching though till they are mine!!!

I suppose I'll be the first to make the case for quantity over quality.

I will be the first to admit that certain staples will never go out of style. Every woman should own a tube of classic red lipstick, black pumps, a little black dress, a quality pair of jeans, a beige trench coat, perhaps, and a great, dependable cardigan or two. For me personally, however, a four to five piece "French" wardrobe, as they call it, doesn't let me express who I am. One day I might want to be a bit of a prepster; the next, I might try to emulate Anouck Amiee in 8 1/2. With my family background and general current financial position, it would be impossible to do this with all "quality" items; thankfully, in the twenty first century, there is such a wide array of fast fashion that anyone can look like a rockstar one day and Princess Grace the next without breaking a two hundred. Are my new skirts from Forever 21 "quality"? Not at all. But they really speak to where I am right now in my fashion journey, and they will certainly find themselves donated or sold in a few years (if they last that long). It's obviously different with the "staples" I mentioned earlier, pieces that transcend trends, but when it comes to the trendier items that I purchase- for this season, those would be garments like rompers or tribal print skirts- it's just much more practical to buy one for $25 at Forever 21 when I know I'm probably never going to wear it again after next season.

As for my one "luxury" item; I plan on using my first big girl/real job paycheck for a pair of classic black Louboutins. Simple, I know, (and probably not very practical for a first paycheck), but I know they'll last me. And I'll only spend an excessive amount on something I know I'll get my wear out of.

^ I guess for me I dont really jump into the whats hot this season stuff... I'd never buy something because I felt it was what I should be wearing because it's in! I buy stuff because I feel they are my long term style... I guess I have a look I stick to rather than mix it up and vary it from year to year... well not too much anyway!

^^^^ I am the same WSG. I can't think of the last thing I even bought that was trend based. I like what I like and I won't wear something I don't like because its a trend piece. I don't have enough money to be buying new things every season and disgarding everything else. I buy expensive clothes and wear them till they literally have holes in them. To me fashion is an art and like all good artworks it should be timeless.

Certainly understandable :flower: But where your art is, say, a Rembrandt or a Botticelli, mine is a Warhol- indulging in what's new, now, and next. I'm not even twenty years old myself, which is probably a factor, too. I haven't found a style that I'm totally dedicated to yet, so I'm kind of playing around with everything. It's just not me to wear the same five or so pieces every week; I like putting on a different persona every time I leave the house. I totally understand the viewpoint of classic style (and could easily see myself wandering in that direction in a few years), but right now, I'm enjoying the youthfulness of being trendy, and I'm glad that now, unlike a decade or so, fast fashion is readily available. ^_^

a dust colored Rick Owens leather jacket

But then I'd also need the matching light grey miu miu bag and black Louboutin platform pumps to complete the look ;)
