Ann Demeulemeester and Carol Christian Poell.

I love Ann for the romanticism, darkness, and poetry I see in her work. It just really speaks to me like no other.

I love Carol for the cold, harsh, often scary "realness" of his work. The feelings I get when looking at his designs are something I can't exactly describe.

And to add a third, I loved Hedi Slimane's collection for F/W 03 Dior Homme, a.k.a. the er collection. It's just magical to me. I mention that specific collection because the rest of his work doesn't always do much for me.

You get that feeling too? I thought it was just me..

Not particularly with CCP, but with many designers as well. And I 2nd every bit of what you said there.

Jurgi Persoons. For his brilliant, iconoclastic vision and creativity. Clothing-wise: his amazing precision tailoring, beautiful fabrics and fabric combinations...and quirky textures & embellishments.

I have a favourite designer every season, for the last two seasons, Adrienne Vittadini. I like the tailoring, and pretty sweaters. (Her sweaters are formal and look good with Henry Duarte jeans.)

Overall, I am torn between Anna Molinari for BlueMarine and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Lagerfeld Gallery.

Anna Molinari: because, Bluemarine is so feminine, and you can never go wrong with the dresses. It’s great for last minute brunch or lunch appointments. I also secretly love Blugirl, even though it’s a bit too wild for my taste, I like the barely there skirts and ruffled mini dresses. Also, I love her store on Bond street in London, and I think Molinari herself, is super sweet!

Karl Lagerfeld : Chanel and Lagerfeld Gallery are both easy to wear, nice to wear for work. I like the way he does jackets, lean cut, not a box-like silhouette. The mini pleat skirts with black tights and a fluffy sweater makes me think Lagerfeld’s proverbial “C’est chic, non?” makes a lot of sense.

One designer, that I adore, because whenever I see the clothes from a collection, I always like 2 or 3 pieces, is Carolina Herrera. Her signature fabric is mostly satin, silk, very flowy, which is not always easy to carry off. I like the trousers, wide leg and well-fitted. (I suppose Dolce and Gabanna do theirs the same way, but the waistline for Herrera’s trousers is more snug fit.) I also like her knee length skirts and dresses (sophisticated, without going overboard and it’s easy to find coats that fit over them and are the same length.), and that she includes grey hues in her summer collections.

Best work: Her Fall/Winter 2000 collection, because the fabrics were amazing, silk georgette and chiffon, mohair, boucle and orylag/wool. I also loved all the coat styles.

Best pieces:

- A pink just above the knee coat (Fall/winter 2000).

- A black clutch of softest nappa with mouton, from the Duvetina series of handbags.(Also launched in Fall/Winter 2000).

- A white satin top and long grey skirt. (Spring/Summer 2002)

Rei Kawakubo, becuase I think she is extreamley visionary and creative, and what can i say, i feel 'connected' to her clothes.

issey miyake, although he isn't considered a fashion designer anymore. he is the one designer i can think of which will change the clothing industry forever...he is motivated not by subjective beauty, but by creating clothing which is completely harmonious to all things and for all people. i think we will all be wearing his creations in one form of another in the future. I also think yohji yamamoto's designs are consistently the most elegant and fluid i've ever seen.

in general, i'm interested in designers that are motivated by the material they use, and not for novelty reasons or to impose too much of a personal aesthetic -- which will fade with time, but to find some underlying truth in the way things are. for instance, to take into account to ways a person interacts with what they wear on a day to day basis...and not to block it, but let it be and highlight it -- therefore create beauty. i hope that doesn't sound too pretentious, i suppose its a very buddhist way of thinking. ^_^

Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga

why? because he likes it complicated, tight and arrogant.
Also because he grabs his ideas from immortal graces like Francoise Hardy, he's not afraid of mixing it up with daring shoes, embarrasing luxurious materials.
To call it vanguardism is to understimate it, but it kind of surprises at any time.

I agree, mine tends to change alot also. I really like Miu Miu because I feel it's very interesting and creative but also fairly wearable. I love the accessories - handbags, shoes, etc.

i do have to say i think galliano and dior shows are genius

Well I change my mind a lot but those who remain as steadfast favourites are a mixture between Australian and the International scene:

Collette Dinnigan

So the majority of my favourite designers are Australian! My fave international designers are Christian Lacroix and Karl Lagerfield

Its a tie for me.. I know its "cliche" but I love Alexander Mc Queen and Marc Jacobs

Phoebe Philo

Alexander McQueen

Olivier Theyskens

Ralph Lauren

Roberto Cavalli

I guess what I like reflects who I am :flower:

Dolce & Gabbana Uomo. The first designer label I've liked, and remains as such after 5 years.

Nicolas Ghesquiere, all the recent collections at Balenciaga are just great.

Valentino, design in the "classic" sense, I can't explain what it is but i just  the clothes. It's gonna be a big disappointment if he does stop designing soon.

Gaultier, his collections are always so inspiring and I love the way his style has evolved.

At the moment i'm really into Galliano, especially Dior HC, the clothes are just pure fantasy.

My "favourite designer ever" would be Yves Saint Laurent just because his influence on fashion was so huge, and no matter how revolutionary his clothes always seemed to have a classic elegance.

that is such an spot-on description of ghesquiere's work for balenciaga :flower: he's one of my favourites too, exactly for those reasons, but right now i prefer karl

I love John Galliano and Alexander McQueen because they are both so individual and they are constantly pushing it. Also their shows are like theatrical displays.

 Nice to find twin-minded Balenciagaddicts !!
btw, in Paris during the Sales weeks, you can get awesome Balenciaga clothes at their boutique in Ave Georges V for half of the price. My hype visit included a very intriguing shoe-fitting of those infamous green suede boots 13 cm high... But boy, could the seller be delicate at fitting the shoe!!!
