John Galliano - Designer

And I am assuming that it is today also.
Karl was the exception, not the rule. He did have a father who was 100% business minded. The work ethic and business mind never left his DNA.

And can we imagine that if they had a whatsapp group, Karl would have told John, what the heck are you doing John. You are throwing away money and life. Etc.
Then we wouldn't have to endure the torture of jwa or mb
Karl wasn’t an exception. There are designers who have a different sense of responsibility and at large in fashion and other creative fields, you have people who know that they can only count on themselves.

There are others who are used to being saved. Even when people are doing substance, they move differently when they have the sense of responsibility. No need to call a celebrity friend, the CEO, the PR or Anna Wintour for an intervention.

I can name a ton of designers like that, from Karl to Hedi, from Jean Paul to Valentino, from Nicolas to Azzedine and others. Even people like Phoebe or Stefano who had more than allegations, were more responsible in the way they conducted themselves than Marc, John, Kate, Naomi and others.

I mean the situation at Bottega Veneta with a Daniel Lee vs a Matthieu Blazy was quite telling no. And they have managed to pretty much hide everything surrounding the exit of Lee. They replaced him with someone who had a sense of responsibility and who didn’t need the intervention of the EIC of Vogue to kind of vouch for him in any kind of way.

But when the thing happened Karl was mad and was vocal on French TV. He was mad at John and if I remember well he said something like John was Arnault’s favorite and it was stupid of him to act that way considering the ideal working conditions he had and that a lot of people would envy.

He was one of the few if maybe the only one who didn’t expressed a « support » to John which is telling because Karl was one of the few from the old guards who welcomed the Brits and American in Paris in the 90’s when Pierre Bergé and others were calling them « Costumiers » or using very derogatory terms to describe their work.
