zam barrett s/s 06 New York

Zamb, have you been featured in Paper magazine before? Somehow,I think I've heard your name somewhere before....

thanks to you all for your comments i truly appreciate them. i will try to post more pics tonite.your words are all moving and i am welled up with tears, it is at times like these that my confidence is restored into continuing my work, as i have been having a sort of love/hate relationship with fashion lately.
i have not been featured in paper magazine (at least not to my knowledge, and i say so because i have gotten editorials that i knew nothing about until months afterwards) the most popular editorial i have recieved so far was in the FADER magazine and it was just a shot of a model wearing a camoflauge jacket that i made about two seasons ago that was inspired by the vests that are worn by men on construction sites.
i was also featured in sister2sister magazinewhere they billed me as one of the most important designers of my generation ( i dont think so as i believe its too early in my carreer to make that kind of assesment)
i was also featured on the B.E.T. nightly news along with kimora lee simmonds (of baby phat) and fashion legend Stephen Burrows. it was a story about Burrows being the Elder statesman of all black fashion designers and Kimora being one who is already established and myself they said possibly showed the greatest promise of all up and coming black fashion designers.

accolades, zam! i love this line and i agree with lena: installations always catch my eye and the venue is beautiful, the clothes are beautiful! good luck and i'll be keeping my eye on you ;)

thanks for posting and welcome to tFS zamb :flower:

looking forward seeing more of your work,
i love instalations v. catwalks so you instantly got me there ;)

there was actually a catwalk Ms. Lena.
i just believed that models walking up and down a runway have become a bit boring. my catwalk was actually made by creating life size dominoes out of plywood, ( i used all the dominoes in the game that totaled six, as six is the highest whole number in dominoes, there are four of these Five ace,Four Duece, Double Three and Six Blank) so when the models walked the runway they would stand on the dots that are on the dominoes, the finale was supposed to be my friend Toni (a model) pushing down several of these dominoes in the traditional dominoe effect, that would reveal the last six models in my editorial pieces that would stand on Six Blank to comlete the pattern of twenty four. I opted against this idea because of what i heard happend at the DVF show and i did not want to scare anyone.
here is a picture of Toni it the outfit that opened the show

That's great^_^ It's something despite being offbase,no? :p But at least you're getting some recognition.

And I can't tell you how much I admire your courage to keep going...especially in NY. If you know what I mean:rolleyes: I just hope you continue to persevere through these struggles because you certainly have a bright future ahead of you. :flower:

Keep working hard Zam. From what I've seen you are a breath of fresh air, this collection is wonderful. Keep true to yourself and eventually, in the near future I believe, you will definately be a massive hit. :D. Good luck in the future!

Zamb, thank you so much for posting information about your life, work, and pictures. Fascinating to read and your clothes are beautiful. I can't wait to see more photos. Please do post htem

It looks good. :) Maybe more close-ups?

Since many designers are currently looking to the past, if you manage to interprete the future with the excellent tailoring skills you have, you'd stand out from the others, not in the space-age cliche way, of course, but in cutting a sharper line, so the women who wear your clothes make the others look frumpy, heheh.

Wasn't there a label once in the 80s called "people used to dream about the future?"

Your clothes and installation are really eye-catching. Very innovative!

Yes. They make you look twice and they're wearable at the same time. All of that and being simple and straight to the point when it comes to fashion. Barely anybody can do that these days.

it's very very pretty~~and i admit i definitely did a doubletake upon seeing the first pic! please dont get down, NY needs some more interesting designers!!

Congrat for the great clothes and show!
Many thanks:-)

Well done, zamb! The collection and presentation both look very good - you should be proud. I looking forward to seeing more pictures!

Zamb, I am so happy for your show. It's great particularly after all of your hard work and you executed your concept completely. I would love to see more pictures especially the details. From waht I can tell so far, great tailoring skills!:flower:

i'm a little lat on this and only to echo everyone's sentiments ... but...
congratulations zamb, beautiful and promising and i also like the way how it's presented. keep us posted:flower:

ROCK ON! :flower:

I want more pictures though, especially the details.

I'd like to say, out of the collections I've seen so far I really have enjoyed yours the most. I find that all too often the intellectual aspect of fashion and designing isn't talked about.

You're not that much older than me, but I find what you are doing really inspiring. I graduate in 2006 and I'm a little unsure of my future. In this world of fashion money is such a huge deciding factor. I know that if I came from an extremely wealthy family I could do what Ashley Verrier does too, but I don't.

You're proof to me that you can still get out there and do it even if you're not loaded. I wish you the best and any hype your recieve (hopefully in the near future) will be well deserved in my opinion.

Can't wait to see the rest of the collection pictures.

P.S.: Do you need an intern possibly? I'd love to learn more about construction and you seem pretty knowledgable. I guess you can PM.

ok my new found fans:lol: :D here we go. i just got these e-mailed to me. i am going out to get the cd with all the pics from my photographer ,i will be in church tonite and tomorrow so i won't be able to post anymore until saturday nite. ( you should make an effort to see those as they will be really interesting to see)so until then love you all and thanks for your support
