Ok,
happy holidays to everyone,
and a prosperous and productive new year to come.
We officially, began the fall collection (sewing the pieces that is) over the holiday weekend.
It was a good weekend in the sense that the pieces that are done look great so far we are very much satisfied with the quality of them.
Bad weekend in the sense that the number of pieces we wanted done were not complete.
we are tentatively set to show the collection on Feb 5, even though that may change (we are still undecided between a runway show or a still life presentation).
There will be no craziness this time around as we will not turn anything over to anyone.
we will be doing everything (almost) ourselves to ensure that we maintain the integrity and professionalism that we want to be known for.
i am in the office today (my dayjob) , wanted to take the week off to finish more pices but............. have to make the money to pay for things pertaining
to the company......... everything we do is self financed, and we have'nt really made any money.
however, thankful to God, because of the skills we have, and our enduring commitment to this work we have managed to stay in business
We hope to be profitable in the coming year, also to increase our profile in fashion/art circles,
I think in some ways the collections have suffered because of my divided attention ( in terms of having a dayjob)
my goal is to be able to quit my dayjob by summer of next year, so that i can focus my attention on the business fully, i believe this is the only way i can make it want i really want it to be.
Anyway, enough of that, now about the collection..
We are doing only about 20-21 looks this season, the colour pallette is very narrow, and more in line with what i am accustomed to, For the first time in a long while, (maybe only my first two seasons) i am going back to my strengths,'
Tailoring (mixed in with knitwear, which is a growing category for us)
So far we have made almost all the pants in the collection and they look very good, mostly high waisted (i never ever did low rise, i always hated the vulgarity of them)
we want to do more jackets (and a few coats this season) to give a more structured look to the collection. In some ways i have to be reining myself in, trying to tame the "Avant Garde Animal" in me, I feel this is necessary in order to grow my business, especially working in America, where avant garde fashion is somewhat suppressed at least seen as some kind of sideshow.
the biggest challenge over the next few weeks is confirming a showroom (sales). we have been in dialogue with a number of them, some of which have told us no

, others we are still talking to, the ones that are interested we are not sure about, as it would mean we have to lower the price points to cater to the lower contemporary market as those are the stores they attract. This is not something we can afford to do, we believe our prices are very reasonable for the kind of work we produce. The fabrics we use (cottons, high end silks- gazar, georgette etc, and high quality woolens-Jerseys, gaberdines, flannels etc )are not cheap
right now we are using an interfacing that costs $10 a yard in our jackets, and that is "INTERFACING". We had to by 25yds (the whole bolt is 25yds x 22 inches, so it is actualy about $30 per yard if it is calculated at 60 inches) to get it at that price, just to produce the samples........., it is the same interfacing used in jackets made on saville row, not even Mr. Armani, or Ms .Prada uses these interfacings,
Some of our peices are Hand finished and produced in small quantities. most of our jackets are lined in silk, sometime even the lining is more expensive than the fabric for the garment. We belive this is justified as the lining is closer to the body, than the self fabric and whatsoever touches the skin should be the best. We are using a grey wool Jersey (double knit "ponte de roma") this season, that is no longer available because the company that produces it no longer exists. There is a store in NYC that has black.... they are asking $82:50 per yard.
we told them to keep it right were it is.
we have 20 yds of the grey, which means that whatever we make from it , there will be probably no more than five or six, of such items to be sold.
we will keep you wonderful guys posted on our progress as we go along,
keep us in you prayers,
Tell your friend about us, as word of mouth is the best PR.
Love always
Blessings to everyone
