Zizou's biography part II
After the Eurocup'94, Zidane followed Michel Platini's advice and decided to move to Italy and join La Juventus of Torino. In Italy, he was forced to change his way of playing and transformed his always slim figure into a body of an perfect athlete with him 82 kilos for his 1,85 metres. Marcelo Lippi, the man who led Italy to winningthe world cup this year, realized Zizou was worth gold. During his time with La Juventus he won el scudetto in 1997, the Europe Supercup and an International Cup.
He was named best foreign player in Italy and the runner up for best European Player in 1997 since Ronaldo won that one battle.
But it was Zizou and not Ronaldo the symbolic player of "France World Cup'98". He scored the goals which gave France the so long waited cup and became a major source of money and publicity, Zidane had many advertasing campaigns waiting for him. It was his year, not only France won but La Juve have him a fantastic contract.
France also won the "Eurocup'00".
He had everything he wanted to have, but Zizou never changed. He was the same guy from La Castellane. Hardworking, modest and shy are probably the words which best define him. You won't find many pics of Zinedine going to clubs, complete opposite, he prefers saying at home with his family, watching TV or listening to music.
He didn't forget about him background and his family, he is very close to every member of it. Plus, he wanted to keep his childhood friend Malek close to him so he became his advisor and aide. They supposely "worked" together but all they do in laughing and spending time together. Getting Malek out of La Castellane to give him a job is something he won't be able to thank him in all his life.
He doesn't enjoy his popularity, which is incredibly high in France just take into account 80% of football shirts have Zidane written on them, and finds it very hard to speak in front of crowds and televisions.
In the year 2001, Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, wanted Zizou to be part of his "dream team" which he finally completed when the club paid 78 million euros to La Juventus.
Madrid was a quite bizarre experience, he loved the city and the Real Madrid supportes but he was never that comfortable in the club. He admits when his friend Claude Makélélé went to Chelsea to play there he felt very alone. That feeling of being alone was very similar to the feeling he had when he was really young away from his family to play football.
He still did well winning La Liga, la Intercontinental and the Real Madrid supporters won't ever forget Zizou's goal which allowed them to win their 8th Copa de Europa.
Injuries didn't allow him to shine in the Korea/Japan World Cup'02 or in the Eurocup'04.
