She is pretty but she is definitely not the most beautiful/talented Chinese actress out there.
I'll just say she happens to be in the right place at the right time and hangs out with the correct crowd.
Unfortunately, now that she is one of the most recognisable female Asian faces in Hollywood, I'll daresay we'll be seeing lots more of her.

Why is everyone picking her apart and comparing her to other asian actresses ??? This is very limiting to discuss someone only in narrow ethnic/racial comparisons and certainly style is without race
Come on...she is a doll, has proven her international appeal, and is super stylish besides
I just saw "2046"- watched it 3x actually- and she had me bawling- my heart broke for her and if that isn't the makings of a real screen actress, what is?
As with other star style threads, if you have a big problem with someone personally, maybe leave the thread to those who enjoy them...?
It just becomes pages of nasty off-topic comments that have little to do with style and can be very off-putting to someone who came to tFS looking for Zhang Ziyi's style thread

I think Zhang has a very classy face and delicate facial features. Maybe I'm biased because I think she looks a lot like my mom when she was younger. Anyhow, I want that cape she's wearing in these pictures.

No one said she was the most beautiful chinese woman in the world but she is beautiful not just for Chinese women but for being a woman in general.

i think she is a good actress. so far, i think she's the first chinese actress i find attractive and acts well. first, i thought she was either korean or japanese... looking at her facial structure. anyways, i think she is pretty versatile. her fashion sense isn't the greatest, but i've seen some of her best moments as well as bad. she is still a pretty chinese actress.

People keeping on saying stuff like "she's not pretty, there are many other asian/chinese girls much prettier." I noticed people are saying this in other threads too, like in Katie Leung's and in other asian models. Why are people so judgemental when it comes to asian females? Gah! Being an asian-american girl myself, I have experienced mass criticism many a time first hand! It's sucks and it's incredibly hurtful. And if there are "prettier" asian girls than Zhang Ziyi, could someone give an example please? Like what UrbanSophistactd said, she is beautiful for a woman, not specifically a chinese woman. Overall though, race should never be a factor in beauty.

As for her being the prettiest Asian actress, I think Shu Qi is probably ten times prettier. I'm sure they could've found a good Japanese actress to play Sayuri but they probably wanted to cash in on Ziyi's so-called popularity right now.

Another Shu Qi fan? I love her, too. But I don't think she's 10 times prettier than Zhang Ziyi. They're about equal in terms of beauty. Zhang is more classic, but I prefer Shu Qi's more unusual, lush, and romantic beauty.
