Okay that took me an hour or so to just pull Louise Brooks over to her very own thread
http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f95/louise-brooks-47388.html
so in future, if you have any Louise, post it in her new thread :woot:
As I went through, I made note of who else seems to have alot in here: Clara Bow, Gloria Swanson, Lillian Gish and there's alot of Anna May Wong to add to her thread.
I will do more tomorrow.

i finally saw my first pola negri movie - ernst lubtisch´s "sumurun" .
she seemed to be an untamed flame that ignites the screen with her performance- a very intense and passionate actress....i hope i´ll get the chance to see more of her in the future.

i found this on EBAY when i searched for pola negri items.i think it´s rather hilarious.unfortunately the seller didn´t offer a bigger version of the pic,but he rewrote the captions of each caricature.

"LILLIAN GISH
Under the able direction of Henry King-in F. Marion Crawford's "The White Sister"-Miss Gish definitely proved that she could be as moving as ever, without a hint of the Griffith supervision. She is soon returning from Italy, wherre she has been filming "Romola", with the aid of Mr. King and her sister, Dorothy.

GLORIA SWANSON
A star who is advancing herself steadily as an artist of power and distinction. She has a real genius for playing bizarre characters. Her latest picture is "Manhandled", in which she does wholly delightful imitations of Charlie Chaplin and Alla Nazimova. She has just begun work, at Asstoria, on a film by Mary Roberts Rinehart.

CHARLIE CHAPLIN
Unspoiled by the fact that he is now recognised by the highbrows as an "artist", Mr. Chaplin has gone quietly on being the funniest person in the world-pausing, now and then, to direct a little better than the best. His most recent comedy deals with the days of the Alaskan gold rush.

POLA NEGRI
In her early films, made in Europe, Miss Negri wasn't afraid to look unattractive or play an unalibied bad woman. Now that her first American Pollyanniversary has passed, she is gradually getting back into her European "character" phase, which first won our public in the German-made film, "Passion"

and finally

BABY PEGGY
With Jackie Coogan, she represents the younger Hollywood movie set. She is the only feminine star whose engagement to Charlie Chaplin has not yet been reported. Her reclame and her salary are certain, however, soon to bring to her feet a legion of serious admirers."

^thanks for posting those.

uh, ah, i forgot i sent my father a memo to record "the pleasure garden" (and "sumurun") for me, i must ask him if he remembered it. btw: was the film complete or merely fragments?

i watched fritz lang's "spione" recently, i'll be back with a few pictures of lien deyers in a few minutes.

lien deyers 1911-?

fritz lang discovered her for his film 'spione' [spies] in 1928 where she played the pretty but unscrupolous seductress kitty. in the early 30s she had great success in comedies, but she emigrated to the USA with her jewish husband when the national socialist party took over. there she wasn't able to get any roles, and her private life was tumultous, several marriages failed and she took herself to drinking. the last thing heard of her was that she was in jail after being arrested in a riot in las vegas in 1964. :(

^i just realized those pictures are probably 30s or something, i always make that mistake, when i get to know an actress through a film from the 20s, i always classify them as 20s, even if they made most of their films not before later. so pardon me.

some more lien deyers from ebay.

gerda maurus 1909-1968

The actress Gerda Maurus was born as Gertrud Pfiel in Croatia. She started her film career at the end of the 20's. Director Fritz Lang was as usual in search of new unknown faces for his movies. When he met Gerda Maurus, who had only experiences in theater until then, he offered her the leading role in his next movie "Spione" (28). Fritz Lang fell in love with her during the shooting which led to a breaking-off with his wife and writer Thea von Harbou. In the next year played Gerda Maurus again under Fritz Lang's direction for the science fiction movie "Die Frau im Mond" (28). In the sound film era she appeared successful in movies like "Schachmatt" (31), "Der Draufgänger" (31), "Der weisse Dämon/Rauschgift" (32) and "Arzt aus Leidenschaft" (36). Her charm did not only turn Joseph Goebbels' head but also the communist dramatist Friedrich Wolf. Especially her protruded cheek bones and her forceful look bewitched the menfolks.[from www.cyranos.ch]

lady stardust, thanks for the enchanitng pics of mary pickford :flower:.

northernsky,i   the selection of evelyn brent pictures you posted!!!
btw,let me know if you´re father´s memory failed him ;) .i could copy my recordings.the quality will suffer but it should still be watchable.just pm me in case you´re interested.the pleasure garden is complete, but in a rather poor condition.sumurun was restored nicely with tinted pictures.

more pictures of my new love pola negri...meanwhile i got to see "the eyes of the mummy".well,i saw it and i didn´t see it.the quality is horrible.it needs a lot of fantasy to complete the vague notions of faces that you see on the screen.the story doesn´t seem to be complete either.judging from what i could see is that it´s a quite exaggerated horror film that makes you grin sometimes, but is still enjoyable...especially regarding the scenes in which negri dances.

this thread is so amazing! :)

another great actress is janet gaynor (in fact, she won the first ever academy award for best actress of 1929 for murnau's "sunrise", which is one of my favorite movies of that era)

and i'd like to add this photograph i recently found of greta garbo that i hadn't seen before.

(this is my first time posting images so i hope the attachments show up alright!)
^_^

Hi Edna and welcome to tFS
Glad to have you join us!
Can you please give the credit/source for the above Janet pictures?
One of the posting guidelines here at tFS is that all photos must be properly credited.
Also search engines (google, yahoo) and host sites (photobucket, flicker) are not acceptable...you have to post where it was orignally posted & if scanned by yourself, state that along with the name of book or magazine and/or photographer.
I wrote some of the host sites I like to use when uploading for you on the Louise Brooks thread :flower:
Karma for your contributions though...thanks!
