Thanks for those- although I would identify Carole Lombard and esp.those particular shots as being 30's not 20's :flower:
Although soon ladies, Carole may be part of a new department here on tFS...hint, hint...:innocent:

I wasn't sure on the dates of the Carole Lombard pictures, but she made more than 30 movies in the 1920's (but wasn't actually starring in them until the very late 1920's), so I thought I might be okay  .

:bounce: Are you suggesting that there might be a "1930s Actresses thread"???:woot:

I think that every decade deserves own thread :)

i would appreciate a thread on the 30s and 40s (and 50s and 60s and 70s. )

greta garbo (who already has her own thread), marlene dietrich, hedy lamarr..
just imagine.

plus.
the 30s and 40s were the time when actors became important to the fashion industry i think (remember when clark gable refused to wear a t-shirt underneath his clothes in it happened one night? it almost ruined the men's underwear industry. ok, almost. but it had an impact. ;) ) the costume designers became stars of her own (edith head for paramount, adrian for metro goldwyn meyer.)

Greta - driving her car ^_^
i can't help but i always found it somehow attractive when women drove a car back in those days. when my grandma told me how she drove a car as one of the first women in her town back then and how everything worked so differently i tought: ohh, that's so cool, granny.. but i don't know exactly why; it wasn't so much a emancipation thing, right?

aw. :(

i wanted to post some pictures of henny porten and asta nielsen, too, because they were so to say the first movie stars and had most of their films in the 1910s and 1920s, so there are not many pics of them. i found a few of asta nielsen.

she surely had no sweet face, but so expressive.
i like that harsh androgynous look of hers.

I agree. I like it too :)

Your grandmom should be great!
Neither of my grandmoms have (had) driving licence... but for me it's a usual thing...

Times have changed...

thanks for pics I've never heard about these ladies...
But I like that pictures, there is something sad about them :(
