^_^ i am afraid my granny was way cooler than i am today.

i agree with you, there is something sad about those pictures. the last one shows mrs nielsen in the role of hamlet, so there has to be some tragedy in it.
but she surely played funny roles, too, i believe.

i just found this lovely pic of her and joachim ringelnatz. i think he is reading some of his funny rimes to her. ^_^

i just watched roman holiday on DVD which had this special about edith head, and there was this guy (i have asolutely no idea who he is) who told how glad paramount was to have mrs head who got along with mrs bow because nobody of the other costume designers did (at least not like edith head did) the problem with clara bow was (the guy said) that she had absolutely no sense of style and didn't know how to dress herself. for example she liked to wear high heel pumps with ankle socks (and he gave the camera this look.. "with ankle socks") that was too funny.

(and i don't think that would have been too cruel a sight on clara bow.)

oh, you are right. but i think it's just the pic, she normally has a round face, it's not square(?) like helen hunt's.

gloria swanson.

she frightened me so much in "sunset boulevard" but she was really beautiful when she was younger. i love that famous bob-picture. here are some other pics of her:

she's one of those actresses i never heard of..

Bebe Daniels [1901-1971] toured already at the age of four in a stage production of Richard III the US, she had her first leading role at the age of seven and started her film career shortly after this in movies for Imperial, Pathe and others. With 13 she was Harold Lloyds leading lady in the "Lonesome Luke" comedies. She stared in movies of DeMille and later for Paramount. After the arriavl of sound, she had no problems with this fact because she had a beautiful singing voice and so she became a major musical star, with such hits like "Rio Rita" and "42nd Street". In 1930 she married Ben Lyon, with whom she went to England in the mid 30s, where she became a successful Westend star and with her husband a famous radio team. Her movie career drifted away after the mid 30s. [www.imdb.com]

..but i found some really pretty pictures on silentladies.

i just read this story about her, that al capone himself was one of her biggest fans in the 20s. when her jewellery was stolen from her hotel room one day, he took care of that.. he announced that mrs daniel's jewellery should be given back to her, otherwise: :furious: and it was returned within the next day.

wow.
