btw... since this lovely thread is narrowed down to the 20's-30's, is there any thread about actresses starring in film noir?? I did a search but I couldn't find any...

Thank you everyone for posting these pics! These are the most beautiful women - ever! They sure don't make 'em like they used to

I don't think so... ;)

i would definitely appreciate a "film noir"-thread :flower:.

jen trochu.chci ucit se ceský jazyk, ale je velmi obtízný . (sorry,i can´t find the czech apostrophs on my keyboard.)

Hi Somnambule :woot:
Sorry I have been remiss in posting...been caught up with modding I suppose.
We are working on a classic star style area for the boards so that should be quite lovely for all of us
Rather than "noir", maybe a 40's thread? That would include Noir and not be too limiting to keep people from wanting to post

Somnambule, can you pm me your addy? I have an extra program I snagged from Cine-Con I thought you might enjoy.
I am getting tix tomorrow for the remastered screening at the Academy of "Phantom of the Opera" If you remember I recently met Carla Laemmle who was in the film and was a great friend of the star Mary Philbin so I am hoping she will attend as well.
I will post some pics when I can- maybe later today!

ps-Northernsky, love the posts and thanks for the note too :flower: I adore Dolores Costello as well...Drew had quite the good-looking granny!

what films should be in a film noir-thread? i always found the definition so unclear..

oh, i'm such a slow poster.. i agree. i think an era like the 40s would be easier than a genre.

Exactly...because then, what I may call a "noir", someone else may think a drama or a farce, etc. :p 40's may just be easier to label.
We do need a 30's one as well!
I was waiting on this new area I mentioned so maybe I will check on the status of that

a classic star style section would be great!

yeah ... noir might be to narrow it down if people don't know so much about it.. but it's actually a big genre.. anyways perhaps a 40s thread then?

Yes that would be very nice! :woot: I think this thread and a few others often get lost when they don't get posted on every day. (I started a Jean Harlow thread a while back that didn't get any posts.... and I assume that has more to do with being pushed back, rather than people not liking her style :D ).

Here's a Marion Davies photo from eBay...

Yes yes  Those threads never surface here for long - ...cue flashback of photographers' threads continually getting lost amidst Supporting cast...

known as the german mary pickford (according to www.imdb.com) ossi oswalda* 1899 (berlin) - 1948 (prague) she was in lubitsch's "the oyster princess", but i think the rest of her films isn't that well-known anymore..?

*what a name! what was she thinking? almost all her roles' names are ossi.

thank you for more lillian gish-pics, luxury's lap. :)

there's something otherworldly about her. (i know that's not the right word, but i can't think of another.)

to be honest, i was never interested in seeing birth of a nation, but is there another film with her that you would recommend?

another actress i have never seen on screen: alma rubens 1897 (san francisco) - 1931 (los angeles) but i liked the dramatic quality of her photographies. (and her name. ^_^ )
