(500) Days of Summer

I love watching the pancake scene come first and then when Tom suggest pancakes, you know what's going to happen.

Love that scene!

I also love the very beginning of the movie, when it goes something like

"This movie is inspired by (Some girl's name)...

...

b*tch."

^ Love that too.

Also, " GET A ROOM. REALLY."
I laughed so hard at that part. Even though it was a minor scene.

^^ Inside joke?

I watched it again. That's three already. :innocent: I love the Expectations vs. Reality scene so much. And not just because the song Hero by Regina Spektor fits it PERFECTLY. (There's a reason it's in my current signature.)

Yes! The lyrics and tone of the song are a perfect fit to the scene. I looked up the song right after watching the movie.

Did anyone else think Summer was a b*tch in the movie? I thought she was playing him all along.

I saw this movie AGAIN!

I have never ever seen one movie so many times at theaters.
This movie I have seen like 5 times (obsession, huh?) and I just love to go late night movie, in small theater where are not many visitors and just watch this movie alone.
I love this movie by my whole heart. Cannot wate to buy DVD and own this piece of art.

I do too! I like to enjoy watching movies without any disruptions. -_-
I remember sitting next to this chick, and she was talking on the phone!

I loved the movie. JGL was perfect, and he definitely made me feel for him. The only problem I had with the movie was Zooey, she was mediocre and unconvincing. I would have loved the movie even more if someone else played Summer.

I might be the only one who didn't think Summer was being a b*tch at all.

i think she was playing him all along, just like f*ck mind gaming with herself and her disappointments with her parents relationship.like she was trying to prove to herself she wasn't strong enough to get passed it while being with tom, and like he strenghten her up even though she behaved like she owns nothing to him, like he's just another project to her.*

* i just watched the movie for the second time. it just gets better, only this time i observed summer's behavior much more.

So, I'm going to have to agree with Tennie. How could ANYONE besides Zooey have filled the shoes of Summer and still have had so much chemistry with Joe? It's not possible, folks.

And for those saying that Zooey's acting was mediocre or flat... that is the character she was playing. Her character is numb, lacking emotions, and putting on an act. Tom foolishly falls for it since Summer is everything he has always wanted.

I'm just curious as to who else you guys would cast instead of Zooey?

No one. I thought Zooey was perfect for the role.

I just saw this movie again () with my cousin. She hasn't seen it nor seen
the previews for this. Fell in love.

I love this movie, and honestly, it gets funnier everytime.

Who couldn't resist laughing at:
Vagiant

Half Vampire, half giant.

I showed this movie to most of my friends, and they all thought this was a sad movie because Summer was so selfish and mean and practically a b*tch.

I think it's difficult to really understand what happened that made it all fall apart, but you find that at the end, Tom adopts Summer's thinking and vice versa: Summer believes in destiny and fate, and Tom believes in coincidence.

yeah, but i think that's the only thing that this movie is lacking, the ONLY.
there's no "bridge" between that so-in-love-with to breaking-up, and that make summer's character hard to understand. it just comes all of the sudden (even though she kinda explains it in the very end when they're sitting on that bench).

I got it on DVD on Saturday! I watched it with my brother and he hated the ending. We got into a big argument about it because I thought it was a witty, clever ending but he thought it ruined the movie.

I don't understand the amount of hated for summer. She is very much a secondary character. She hasn’t been flushed out enough. This is a story very much about Tom and his need for love. The character of Summer was honest as she could have been with him and herself. She told him about being causal, not being his girlfriend and not promising him the security of knowing her feelings for him won’t change. I really like her honesty. He is the one that chose to not listen to her and not stand by his beliefs. Tom wanted more from Summer and she was starting to resent that. I think that was one of the reasons why she was hot and cold towards the end. Tom didn’t even realize they were fighting. And for her to say she was Sid. Says to me that she ended it before she could hate him.

If Summer was using Tom. Then I think Tom was using Summer too. TO prove to himself that love was there and Summer was the one. If Summer was jaded from her parents splitting up. Then Tom had a one sided view of what love is. From listening to British music and misinterpretation of the Graduate. Tom very much lives in his own head. He was using Summer to escape his boring and routine life. He thought that if he found the one, his life would some how be magically different. That can be very exhausting and time consuming. To pin all of your dreams into one girl. That is too much for Summer or any girl to live up to.

If you look closely Summer was really supportive of Tom. She wanted to know more about him as an architect, she would ask him about his dreams, letting him draw on her, and telling her friends what a great architect he could be.
I think it's difficult to really understand what happened that made it all fall apart, but you find that at the end, Tom adopts Summer's thinking and vice versa: Summer believes in destiny and fate, and Tom believes in coincidence.
What Tom learned was to go out and experience life. If you want the job, go and get it. If you want the girl, go and ask her out. He spent weeks staring, and stalking Summer. He took less than 5 minutes to ask Autumn out. Tom changed so much. And he wouldn't have met Autumn if he didn't quit his job.
