A Magazine #9 : Curated by Proenza Schouler

i don't get it. the whole point of A since it's initial inception is for it to be a representation of who you are creatively and how this imagery is a reflection of their work. this just seems like a big arrogant tribute to america and who they are as americans and has nothing to with their own work or their aesthetics. i mean,it is still about fashion afterall. and last i checked,i don't recall any of their work ever being inspired by abraham lincoln or the american flag. i'm very disappointed with their decision to use them. the one thing that i've come to rely from A is how inspiring they are in what they do and who they choose and the imagery these designers have been able to come up with but this is not inspiring to me.

mcdean, templer, solve and grand?.. they must've thought the assignment was for V...

looking forward to that random appearance by Panos.. wonder what he shot.

thanks for posting, diesel.

merci max ...

would you mind telling us if the editorials feature only PS outfits ?

and what are the articles about ?

did you get it in France - or is it an "advanced copy" ?

excited about Camille Vivier and Marie Chaix.
cannot wait to see Panos' work.

^ the whole idea of fashion editorials feels strangely foreign for A Magazine, but somehow that's what makes this issue interesting. i'm really intrigued to see Craig McDean's edit, even more so as the cast for the ed is so freaking fantastic! (bringing Alla and Jamie into one spread? Karl Templer rocks!)
and yes, Panos' series is something to look forward.

on a different notion, it's quite hard to get the idea of how the Americana spirit works through the people collaborating on fashion section. for now the preview does sound more of a Interview/V routine rather than A Magazine. but we shall see.

^well the fashion stories have been there before. when it was NºA-Z(dirk van saene, bernhard and hussein) those did have fashion editorials. it had a very different approach, usually only one or two and highly creative, but the emphasis was there.

but,oh my it does sound an awful lot like a V or i'view collab. than A. diselmax,we would be greatly appreciative if you could post some images or something. i'm still not sure if i want to get it or not in spite of an appearance by panos.

Meghan & Ranya together in one ed? :woot: This sounds more than promising. Can't wait to see scans ^_^ Thanks for the review!

I love your in depth analysis of this issue. I assume you have already seen all of the content?

^ that's such a random assumption when you read Scott's post, really. Nowhere in his post he's "analyzing" an editorial or specific image so you can "assume" he's blindly disregarding all of the content, anyone who's seen and bought A in the past can easily see and feel concerned about the deviation from the parameters A collaborations usually take place in.. you pick up a creator so he can project his vision and aesthetic through the issue, this time not only the creator is known by fickleness rather than solidness past curators are known for (hence the early reactions), they're also (as predicted) thinking this is VP January/December issue where you 'get to play' with cool models, cool themes and photographers.. surely the discontent and even outrage is not that complicated to understand.. I guess this section has gotten so used to comments by editorial (or by models only in many instances) that whenever a directional comment is spotted (which were common in the past, I should add) it's usually seen with suspicion..

Maybe it is a random assumption on my part and maybe analysis was not the right term, but I think its equally random to assume this issue of A will be bad just because the cover is not directly tied to the aestethic of the designers or because the digners don't fit in the list of previous curators. And one can be a litlle bit sarcastic right?

And don't get me wrong, I love reading Scott's directional comments, or any directional comment for that matter :flower:, but just because a comment is directional doens't mean I can't disagree with it, right?

^ of course, but the thing is, he's not saying it is going to be bad, bad or good isn't the main concern.. US Vogue can put out the most amazing porcelain vase on the cover of their september issue and fill its pages with all sorts of sculptors and painters, and it's good, but, if you've followed the publication and even have a subscription, it's inevitable to wonder and feel slightly (or tremendously) disappointed about the change of direction.. like I said, the contents are on the right side for discussion and the direction is on the left one.. the fact that you can dread one doesn't necessarily mean you're unhappy about every individual feature.. perhaps you don't even care. -_-

^^I do care, otherwise I wouldn't be visiting this thread and I can see why someone can be dissapointed by the change in direction, so I guess you're right.

^ I was talking in third person, didn't mean you in specific, mikel. :flower:

^but what exactly did you disagree with there, mikel? you just made snide comment...no response in that.

listen, having long been a subscriber since 2001,i can honestly say this goes against the aesthetics and ideals A has always stood for. nothing more nothing less.

and in case you missed it,i did ask to see scans so i can preview and make up my mind formally.
