Accutane

Aurora
different people react very differently to Accutane. Side effects differ. Time of the initial break out also varies. No one can give you an exact time period. Accutane should really be a last resort. Make sure your blood in monitored monthly.

i have a couple of friends who've done it...one of them had to do it twice cause it didn't really work the first time...

i'm really not sure why they did it...they didn't really have a big problem...

I was on accutane, I couldn't last for a week, It caused me big big problems in my head, I was depressed, I wanted to shoot my brains out... It practically made it worse, cause that's the purpose of it, bringing all those bacterias out, and then it clears up, but I couldn't deal with it, I love myself more than loving having a perfect skin :)

Then again, it reacts differently on other people, but depression is one of the side effects when being on accutane.

I took accutane about 5 years ago.. when I was in 8th grade.. The first two months, things got really bad, and then quickly things got better... I did experience some side effects including losing some hair and severely chapped lips. I still have permanently chapped lips to this day from it.... I would speak to a Pharmacist about this, because most dermatologists quickly write off the side effects..

Moisturizer on Accutane

Which face moisurizer saved you on accutane? I'm waiting for the extreme dryness to kick in:(

Burt's Bees Carrot Day Creme. I also used their face wash because it was oil based. I know that seems odd but when you use something water based it strips all the oil off and increases the dryness. I know a lot of people use cetaphil but I adore Burt's Bee's. It was the only thing I could use if I wanted to wear makeup.

def Cetaphil or PONDS Dry Skin Creme. Carmol 20 is also great but it can sting at first b/c of the urea in it.

I'm on it now...well, a generic version of it (amnesteem)...i've been on it for about 6-7 weeks and it has made my skin dreadful...its like 100 times worse than the original acne i had...eek...i'm hoping it'll clear up soon because my skin looks disgusting ... it's painful to even look in the mirror

as for side effects all i'm experiencing are hte constantly chapped lips...i got headaches the first couple times i took it but that has gone away...oh but it did raise my cholesterol lol

I'm currently on it and I have been for roughly four months now, and I have to say that my skin is so clear I even get compliments on how nice it looks *knock on wood*. Although my lips are constantly chapped, my hair seems to be falling out in greater amounts than normal, my ability to concentrate seems to have decreased, and I get frequent moods swings (which I'm sure are related), it's all worth it and there is only one month left for me to go so I'm sure I can handle it.

I was just wondering, has anyone used it and seen significant improvements in body acne? As I'm seeing a great deal of improvement on my face but not so much on the body...

I know a friend of mine that used accutane for ages. It looks like accutane addicted. But she still got acnes. I asked my dermatolog and I confirmed that it will harsh your skin and make your skin very very sensitive.

I've done two courses of Accutane and it literally changed my life. I suffered from cystic acne which it totally fixed. I did it a second time because it does wear off (for me it was about 10 years) and I started to get breakouts (not cysts, but I get marks on my skin easily so I can't afford to have any pimples). I suffered almost no side effects except for chapped lips. and my skin is perfect. I went for a facial and the aesthetician said my skin was so clear there was no need for any extractions. but there's a lot of controversy swirling around it due to the severe birth defects it causes if you get pregnant and some allegations that it causes depression. so don't be surprised if it's banned from the US in the near future.

Accutane is a massive Vitamin A supplement. Vitamin A, when absorbed in great quantity or in very great lack, can be letal. When taking Vitamin A massivly, it has numerous sides effects like seen with Accutane ( but not letal, of course ahaha). The depression thing is a rare side effect, and apparently occur when you have a depressed personnality already before the treatment. but no studies where made on this so it is only specualtions.

Yes, Accutane is teratogen and can cause MAJOR disformations to the foetus. It has to do with the folic acid in the formation of the embryo which makes grow the right members to the right place and at the right time ( like arms, legs etc..). When this folic acid is interupted ( with Accutan) it can cause members disfonctions and diformations as well as other malformations. So you HAVE to be on birth control and use preservatives to avoid having a child in the process.

The other sides effects like mentionned ( sensitive skin, chapped lips, bleeding nose) has to do with the fact that accutan dries BIG TIME the mucous membrane.

There is a FEW cases in the world of suicide, but the patient had psychological problem BEFORE de treatment and had suffered of depression at least 1 time before. So there is nothing to be scared off.

Also, accutan has direct effects on your liver. In fact, it acts a bit like when you take alcool. It affects your liver the same way. So, it is recommended not to take accutan with alcool. ( so dont get drunk with accutan, but you can take a drink, no prob) because they reported cases of weird comportements ( like agressivity) in the influence of alcool, under accutan treatment.
Thats is all about I remember of this product. If you have any questions, feel free to talk with your dermatologist, he's there for you!

I study medecine and we had a lesson on this product. Its true that it is controversial, but almost every users had good comments on this product.

* and for males: Accutan does NOT make you steril  . It is only recommended , especially for women, to be VERY carreful if sexuality active *

I did a round of Accutane about a year ago (4 or 5 months on the drug if I remember correctly?). I had TERRIBLY dry lips, dry scalp (I washed my hair about once a week, and it was never oily), dry eyes ( I could barely wear contacts) and a dry nose. BUT despite all the side effects my skin is now PERFECT. I never get zits, and I get complimented on my skin all the time. TOTALLY worth it. Just stick with it and you'll be fine.

Yep, just carrya lipstick or a little vaseline in your pocket for your mucous region and you'll be fine!

I'm getting on the treatement in 2 weeks, cant wait for the results..

I would recommend it to anyone because it has worked wonders on very bad acne.....but after about 2.5yrs spots started coming out again. MUCH less...but i thought accutane would keep me spotless for the rest of my life :(

In fact, if you take antibiotics like Miocyclin, your chances of getting pimples back after the treatment is over 80%.

If you take Accutane, which is a last option treatment, your chances of getting little pimples afterwards are 50% for all the population. You can take accutane again or let it go, and they will go away after a while I guess, but I think you are unfortunatly in the 50% of the population...
