Accutane

Its ok. You ha da good experience with Accutane and these spots will go away soon. Let time to your hormone system to regulate a bit and it will disapear.
You have better skin than you had, so thats a great thing for sure :flower:

I was on accutane, I couldn't last for a week, It caused me big big problems in my head, I was depressed, I wanted to shoot my brains out... It practically made it worse, cause that's the purpose of it, bringing all those bacterias out, and then it clears up, but I couldn't deal with it, I love myself more than loving having a perfect skin :)

Then again, it reacts differently on other people, but depression is one of the side effects when being on accutane.

I saw your post a bit late, but I think its a good thing you brought. I mean, you made the best thing you could, cuz depression can turn really bad.
Its a side effect that CAN occur, depending on the person. But if youre not feeling good, like Ale did, you have to STOP immediatly.

OK I'll stop doing my doctor since I'm not one yet, but I find this post interesting, cuz accutane is giving mostly to teens, and its a period propice to depressed comportments, and it could be very bad.
Take care all:heart:

What dosages did your doctors have you on? I just finished a month of 20mg and the results/side effects were very minimal. My doctor bumped me up to 40 mg.

I read that Oratane is a generic version of Accutane. And I took like 6-7 boxes of Oratane and it didn't work for me! My lips are still chapped till now.

I'm on accutane right now, and one of the savoirs for my lips has been vitamin E capsules. I just break them open and put the oil from the inside on my lips, it's amazingly moisturizing.

For those of you who took accutane..

How long does it usually take for the initial breakout to go away? I've been on accutane for two weeks now and I'm breaking out much worse than before, I knew of course that this could happen, but I'm getting kind of anxious because my face is never this bad and I don't know how long it will take for it to calm down.

The initial breakout for me took about 2-3 weeks to start clearing away. It's pretty gradual. You have to be patient with this stuff....

I've tried almost all acne medications out there and today my dermatologist recommened accutane. I'm supposed to go get a blood test done this thursday first and if all is right, I will start the treatment next week:blink: . I'm horrified about my breakouts being worse for the initial period though. (I work part time in a clothing store at the mall and have to come in contact with alot of people on a regular basis:unsure:) I break out regularly all over my nose, and both sides of my cheeks. I REALLY hope this will work for me, because I'm sick and tired of trying to cover my face all the time. Another concern I have is that I just recently tried proactiv (which did nothing for me btw) and I'm wondering, will me skin be affected by the change of treatment this fast? Also, for those who experienced hair loss, did your hair continue to fall out after you have finished the treatment?

BTW this is my first post at the FS forum. so hi everybody:flower:

Hi right back at you Angeldreamz...The hair loss thing really depends on each individual. My older sister and I took accutane at the same time. We both experieced hair loss, and change of texture..Thick turned into thin. Her's bounced back to their original appearance after about 2 years. It's been about 8 years for me and my hair is still on the thinner side...

The extent of how much "worse" your skin gets is also dependant upon a lot of factors. All i can say is for you to switch to a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil, because Accutane or isotretinoin is Vitamin A in concentrated form along with other things. It will dry out your skin, basically your body. Drink plenty of fluids and moisturize often. Then let the medicine do the rest. Good luck and welcome to tFS!

I thought they took Accutane off the market because of all the crazys. My cousin was on it and he was a lunatic, he was so violent, even though he is normally a piece of sh*t he was extra sh*tty while on Accutane.

Proactiv works, also it isnt internal so you odnt have to worry about being a nutjob.

I think part of the mood disorder stuff regarding accutane is that most people who are recommended to be on it already have some esteem issues or depression from their acne problems. Also, a lot of adolescents are prescribed on it, and well....they're adolescents. I'm not mitigating the seriousness of depression or whatever your cousin is going through, but I'm not sure I'd say Accutane is single-handedly responsible for it.

ok, i am having serious skin problems(to me). i always had pretty clear skin, with just an occasional pimple or two. in 9th grade i went to the derm and was prescribed klarol and differen, and a mild antibiotic. though my skin was already good, they helped keep bumps away. then, last year, my skin started getting real breakouts, with several pimples at a time.this year, im a junior now, my skin is horrible!!:( its not the kind of acne that leaves scars, but i have what seems like thousands of red blotches and bumps on my cheeks. i dont understand. and usually if i get breakouts, they go away and leave me with clear skin for a few days, but ive had like a 6monthlong breakout now. ive been to the derm but she just gave me more differen, a different antibiotic, and evoclin. does anyone have the same problem? also, i really want to knock this thing out. it gives me bad self-esteem! do you think i could go on accutane, i mean my cheeks looks so flushed and blotchy! i have another appointment in a couple of weeks, and i really want to get over this horrible thing...:(

Prettyjuice - I would try getting a second opinion.
For YEARS my dermatologist told me that I had regular ole acne and that it would be cleared away with such and such cream, or endless antibiotics. After i moved to a different city and saw a different dermatologist, she, upon looking at me just once!, diagnosed me with something entirely different and solved the root of my problem. You mentioned red blotches and bumps...It could possibly be psoriasis or sebhorric dermatitis, the latter is what I had. Of course just because I had it, doesn't mean you do, but a second opinion can't hurt. Best of luck!

thanks so much for your input! so yes, i have uneven, red skin on my cheeks for a few months now. and like i said, they pimples arent really BIG, just normal. i dont really even know if they have stuff in them, b/c i make sure not to pick on them. but they are sometimes small sore spots. but the redness makes them appear even worse. does this sound like yours? and you got the help you needed from accutane?

that sounds similar to what i had on my skin before. I had really painful red bumpy patches all over my face from during 7th and 8th grade. At times it would even itch, my skin would appear flaky and somewhat scalelike as well. Sounds gross, but i was on the extreme end. I took accutane during the summer and by 9th grade my skin was looking fine. The accutane definetely cleared up my acne. If it's sebhoric dermatitus, your dermatologist may recommend something in addition or in place of accutane.

The second dermatologist changed my life!!!! My skin is super smooth and you can't even tell i had previous problems. I hope everything works out, I know how much of a pain this can be. PM me if you need anything else too!

thanks sooo much for help and info. i looked up those two conditions you said i might have, but they both say they are skin diseases. i do have red, uneven skin, but not flaky. so i might have a weird kind of acne?? this is all so confusing. i have also decided to go to another dermatologist! so i can finally have some one elses opinions other than my current, not so fabulous, derm..

There's going to be a national database of accutane users and suppliers now due to all the controversy around the drug. That's what my derm. told me.

I'm on acctuange Claravis branded and I never had an inital breakup. It depends on the person.
