Adriana Lima

if you look at how she use to look, she didn't look so commercial. (look at some of her really old pics, when she started out...you'll be amazed) She was a designers Dream, a LOT of designers adored her, but the problem is she really started in 1996/1997 and then started working for VS in 1998 and was signed as an angel in 2000. Right around 2000 is when her HF career was really really booming. Once she signed to VS they kept her so busy, and she probably didn't feel the need to do it anymore. But she is High Fashion and Commercial both, she's able to go back and forth she's not just commercial like say Alessandra is. People also need to remember when she came into the fashion world, around the same time Gisele, and some others did....in high fashion you still seen gorgeous girls, now not so much. Back in Adriana's HF days most of the girls on the runway were beautiful women, now you can watch a HF runway and not find one model who to the general public is attractive. People were shocked and thrilled to see her on the Givenchy runway, and campaign, and she had more coming up if it wasn't for the pregnancy, so I expect more soon.

Yeah, for real. Haha, where do you live where girls look like her next door?
Well, where I live is my own business and trust me, theres plenty of hers out there. I will refrain from further commenting as my point wouldnt get across because apparently, there are too many fervent defenders of Adriana out there.
I like her, but this thread makes me wanna hate her..Idk whats up with that and those commentaires!!? I thought everyone had a right to express opinions.
Me and couple other people agree that Adriana doesnt stand a chance in HF today. Yes, she did some, Yes, she could go both ways, but she isnt doing it right now. She lacks the guts of Gisele to quit and do something more HF because she knows she has no future and no money there.
Its one thing to do HF and VS, and is another to rely only on HF for income and fame. If she was so great, she would be doing Hf right now and not VS.
Just accept the fact and stop criticizing. If you cant stand others opinions that differ from your point fo view then dont comment!

Ok in all rights, Gisele didn't quit. She demanded a pay raise, and they didn't give it to her. So in all rights she was kind of fired. Which IMO was funny, because they turned around and pay Adriana more, than what Gisele wanted...(in fact they even pay Ale higher than what Gi demanded)
Most models would rather do commercial, and I'm sorry any model who drops a 25-30 million dollar contract, along with a good 5-10 million beauty contract on top of it...to do High Fashion is insane. Adriana was the ONLY model a couple years ago to have 3 multi year multi million dollar contracts...surpassing Gisele.
I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I think we're just saying to say she's just commercial is absurd, or saying she isn't doing it now because she can't, is absurd. Adriana's shown she can, she just basically doesn't want to, she's happy doing what she's doing..but when she does get back into it, jobs are thrown at her...like they were for a couple months before she got pregnant.
Honestly, most people that I've seen, I've heard of know Gisele for 3 things...being with Leo Dicaprio, being with Tom Brady, or being with Victoria's Secret, heck the night of the VSFS I had to reply to I bet 200-300 people wanting to know where Dri was, but I bet half of those people wanted to know where Gisele was...she's been gone for 3 years! Honestly if HF was as important as some people make it out to be, she'd be getting more and more famous for that...obviously it hasn't. Maybe inside the fashion world, but to the general public...she hasn't. So Gisele hasn't made fame out of her high fashion career, as so many people want to think to the public. Because if that was the case she wouldn't be famous for VS, and who she's dated and most of the public wouldn't be still wondering why she's still not with VS...if she was as famous with HF as some people like to think...they'd know where she was and why she "quit" VS. heck I was shopping in VS on black Friday and heard some woman ask where Gisele was, she didn't see anything with her on it...and the woman replied "I don't know" just then the clerk that was helping them said "Oh, she doesn't model anymore" and then they started talking about her "dating that football player" So while inside the fashion world, she might be a big success, her fame comes from VS...not HF, at all.
As for people who say tons of people who live in Brazil look like Adriana...I've always thought this when I hear something that ridiculous...if tons of girls do, and tons upon tons of girls come to the US to model from Brazil...why do the hundreds we see never look like her...question to ponder. But anyway :)
But again we all have different opinions. But that's just what I've observed.

Okay, peace love and harmony guys :flower:. Can't we all agree to disagree without hostility? It doesn't have to be so personal. Everyone has an opinion and it doesn't have to turn into anything more then that. People see things differently, and I'm not siding with anyone, I think Adri can be HF and commercial, and if other people think otherwise I'm fine with that. Let's keep this thread friendly :D

oh I agree, we all have our different opinions. I'm just stating what I've observed, I think that's all everyone else is doing. Everyone has their own opinion :)

(My very first post... I choose to post it in my fav model thread)

I really miss seeing her around, missed her in VSFS and I want her to get HF work too. As for the discussion above, I agree that when she was younger the potencial for HF was there (I still thinks she has) but she decided for a path, and if that path makes her happy and really work with her sexy vibe, we fans should be happy too! That's just my freshman opinion... :)

You're welcome! And I'm not really sure about the years, but CC could probably tell you that.

They own several homes (NY, LA, Brazil, France, and Serbia..and probably one soon in Miami) I'm guessing they'll just own yet another home in Spain if he decides to go.

UPDATE!
Supermodel Adriana Lima and her basketball-playing husband Marko Jaric are moving into a $9 million home on Indian Creek in South Florida. Who? He plays for the Memphis Grizzlies (Yes, there's a pro team in Memphis and they played the Miami Heat on Dec. 13) and she's with Victoria Secret and Maybelline , among others. Where? This small island community is just north of Miami Beach near Bal Harbour, yet another ritzy South Florida locale. And you thought Fisher Island was the only place for the rich and famous in Miami. It's designed for the wealthy, whether their names are in bright lights or not. Others who live or have lived on the island include Julio Iglesias, Don Shula (retired Miami Dolphins head coach), South Florida car czar and philanthropist Norman Braman and a few members of the Saudi royal family. The exclusive Indian Creek Golf Course takes up much of the 250 acre island. There are 40 homes - all waterfront properties - and just as many people. Well, maybe 43 now that the model and the jock moved in with their newborn daughter Valentina. Indian Creek has it's own elected officials and police force, and the occasional the political scandal that comes with both. In the early 90s, the village's police chief was accused of nepotism, refusing to issue traffic tickets to residents, taking fishing trips during work and punishing officers who didn't tow the line. The U.S. Census has ranked Indian Creek as one of the top 10 highest-income communities in the United States. While the net worth of the residents may have changed in the past year, one thing remains constant - the homes are pricey even if values have dropped. Lima and Jaric bought 22 Indian Creek Drive for $9 million. Built in 1958, the home is on the south side of the island overlooking Biscayne Bay. Iglesias' home was listed as one of the 10 most expensive homes in the country by Forbes in 2006. At the time it was priced at $26 million. Take a look at this $12.9 million 7 bedroom home.
