^ Can you tell us a bit more about PR in publishing? Also what are some international publishing houses that take interns ie in China? thanks, any info is much appreciated.

Not sure about China, but you can always look up international publishing houses like Penguin or Doubleday. Many publishing houses also outsource their PR to agencies. PR in publishing is like PR in anything else. Sending out press releases, arranging interviews, giving authors and publishers media advice, etc...

So, is she a product of PR? If so, can someone break it down for me?

"I find people generally refer to entertainment/fashion/party PR when they are talking about PR"

when applying to colleges keeping those kind of jobs in mind what would be the best thing to study? any colleges you know of?

Syracuse University has a PR program

in a dream world i would take a dual program in communications (or journalism) and design&manegement. but since few schools would really have both those majors and allow it, you are best going the communications route and just blanketing fashion PR firms with your resume.

^I know that Parson's does not. I can't say for FIT, but its doubtful. Unfortunately most of the fashion business programs that are offered are geared primarily to buying/merchandising and not the other elements of the industry. However, the Parsons D&M program does offer classes in these areas, just not a degree in them specifically.

I'm very interested in PR! I would like to do an internship in Germany. Any suggestions? Thanks.:flower:

I worked for three years in Events...which is basically PR. Ive worked with some major corporations such as Conde Nast, and some major law firms as clients.

I am going back to school in the fall to study PR, and hope to move into a more corporate environment. Instead of having numerous clients, I think I want to work for one corporation, and just handle thier PR/Marketing.

I was seriously considering PR recently.

Problem is, no universities offer Fashion Business/Management/Promotion courses here in Ireland.

If I was to go into the business/promotion side of fashion could I just take a basic degree, say in, English, Media and Cultural Studies or Journalism and then specialise abroad maybe?

i study PR! it´s so much fun!

just a little question: if someone of you girls and boys out there knows how i can get an internship in england or the us, please tell me ;)

I broke into PR via an internship. I started out with a boutique fashion PR firm and then I worked my way up, until I started my own company. Eventually, I realized that I love PR as a job skill, but not as my entire job. I think PR is one of those things that is great fun, for a short time. And then it just wears you out.

I also dislike the direction PR is headed: there is increasingly MUCH more emphasis on going out every night and meeting the movers and shakers in the nightlife scene. Less and less business seems to be done during normal hours. And that gets old too.

I also hated how people would automatically brand me as a party-animal networker, simply because I worked in PR. It was like they immediately took me much less seriously.

I think my primary issue with PR is that I worked in the industry in Los Angeles. I really came to HATE dealing with the celebrity machine and all their assorted handlers and drama. It got old really really fast.

^Ah, I see! So it's like networking and promotions for someone else.
I guess I know what it's like... It is tiring. It's kind of like pretending to be somebody else for a while, just so you can get something in return like contacts. You meet some nice people though sometimes

I know what you mean. I gave up on the party scene type PR after my internship. I also wanted something that I could do when I'm in my 50s. The woman I worked with was almost 40, and she felt like she had to act like she's 23 years old. Being a very small, young looking woman, I wanted to be taken seriously, so I started to look for event planning/PR jobs in a more corporate environment. That way, I could do PR and still be a grown up!

Hi

I am also very interested in working in PR with the fashion field. I have a BA in communication and PR and an AAS in fashion design, which I think make me ideal to work in the PR industry, as I have a deep understanding of fashion. I did sevral internship and freelance positions as a design assistant.

I am now looking for a full time position with a PR firm in New York, such as KCD OR C&M Media. Would you have some companies name or contacts in that field?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks
Naila

From what I saw of the PR lady that worked for a publishing company I was working at, she did a lot more of the business aspect, networking more than actually partying and she was in her late 40s.

She also did a lot of shopping

PR agencies NY

Hi guys,

I am actually looking for a position in New York in fashion PR as an assistant account executive. I would love to have some feedbacks, advices. what does it take to make it in that field? what qualities you think are necessary? what background? what is your work like?

do you have any contacts or companies name in New York?

I would really appreciate your help,

Thanks
Naila

Ugh. After working in fashion/entertainment PR for a year I definitely decided I would much rather be invited to the party than work the party. Yuck.

Writer gal....I bet we worked for the same woman ;)

Does anyone know who hires the pr assistant and/or pr coordinator in a fashion company? Assuming the company does their own pr (in-house) would the resumes be directed to hr or to the pr manager/director? :flower:
