Allure October 2017 : Kim Kardashian by Daniel Jackson

Kim is like the Instagirls of pop culture. Just when you think she's gone for good, out she comes with a slew for covers. It's very conceptual for Allure, perhaps too ambitious. Like something Kanye would do if he had his own magazine. This will be a tough sell on the newsstand. I don't see 'beauty' in any sense here.

I get the concept, but the execution of it turns Kim into a cross-eyed criminal as caught on CCTV.

In fact, I'd be pushed to recall a more badly cropped cover shot in all my decades of buying magazines.

IMO Kim's fans are superficial like her ... so I don't see this cover grabbing their attention on news stands... this is likely not going to sell well for Allure.

I think that's an unfair generalisation.

I'm usually OK with Kim Kardashian on the covers of magazines but I'm not feeling this one. Don't rate the choice of cover image whatsoever and think it's a total flop for Allure. Daniel Jackson's such a wonderful portrait photographer, and this could've been a brilliant beauty cover for Allure but their efforts at trying something unconventional falls completely flat here.

very very personal? As if the world hasn't seen it all already;-)

If they were going to try something new like this, I think that Kim is the perfect cover choice. It will get press and attention just because it´s her.

Digging the concept, but terrible execution. All the shots shown are terrible-- and cheap.

Kim’s been on a roll with her covers recently— Interview and Bazaar. Too bad the execution of this one is so awful… “Very very personal” and the image is an awkwardly cropped one that looks like a snap of a screencap. And tigerrouge— she does look cross-eyed and that’s all I’m going to see… much like your observation of that Jeremy person’s receding hairline is all I’m going to see about him LOL

Sadly, you're 100% correct. I don't think Kim or Blac Chyna or the Kardashian/Jenners are going anywhere anytime soon. Such garbage all of them.

Such garbage all of them.

So true, HBQ! Especially in the light of these editorial previews. She's giving California such a bad name. Tacky latex, cheap false tan, and gaudy jewels (you'd think she'd be a bit more sensible flaunting jewels like this).

When I saw the fitered cover I thought it was Klein again and wondered how Allure got him. I'm not sure how Daniel Jackson got mixed up in this mess because this isn't even his style. Plus he's not overfond of celebrities (sure he's done the odd US HB cover) so shooting Kim Kardashian is so removed from his brand. Hope he's not selling out....

And just to think Allure was a role with some nice covers. They come with this not so flattering cover of a cover star who isn't flattering in general.

NEXT! Get some real beauty on the cover and not this leather bag of a lady.

On the other hand, I think Kim Kardashian is a cover star far more in keeping with the ethos of Allure than most of the people who get featured in the magazine - her fashion sense might be questionable, but her beauty styling is never anything less than immaculate, and there probably isn't a plastic surgery procedure that she hasn't tried or considered over the years.

It's easy to dismiss her, but she's a walking summary of most of the things Allure promotes on their pages, from lipstick to skin resurfacing to body alteration.

Just because we now have more non-white faces on the pages doesn't mean the magazine has moved away from selling the same old idea of perpetual transformation via the latest expensive products and procedures.

And that's Kim, constantly changing herself - maybe not for the better, but there's always something going on.

I've just flicked through this issue thanks to my local library's online reader, and while I feel there's a lot of written content in the 200 or so pages, there are TOO MANY LISTS.

Having a Best in Beauty issue doesn't mean your recommendations have to read like a book index. After the first few pages, it was a case of swipe... swipe... swipe... and then me realising I could turn a printed page faster than these ones take to display, but that's what I get for not living in the real world. I mean, the final page of a feature about Mormon lifestyle bloggers didn't display at all, so I'm left hanging as to whether Allure has concluded they are a good thing, or a scourge upon society.

There's a feature about Kate Moss - but she's not on the cover? Truly a sign of the times we live in. And there's also a non-white person in a Chanel cosmetics ad. But there's no real glamour on the pages of this magazine, which is my perpetual lament. It can be interesting to cover trends for unusual looks - but wanting to look good never goes out of style.
