Angelina Jolie

I think that if she becomes more and more beautiful years after years, it's because she seems to have found some kind of fulfillment. She has a family that clearly matters and that loves her, she is no longer "just a debutant actress" (even though she was good) but an actress that is respected by everyone, she just started as a director and seems already successful, she is now very involved in humanitarian actions... No wonder why she becomes more beautiful. I think she is simply more at peace with herself. She found who she really is.

She is SO beautiful inside and outside. But specially inside, and that's what matters in the end.

I have to disagree. She always has this arrogant ''world savior, let ME teach you about world poverty'' aura and you can also see how it transcends in photographs. She always looks so stoic.

^While I don't think she's a horrible person , I too dislike the way she carries herself. It's like every interview she seems to try a little too hard , her and Miranda Kerr are really similar in my opinion. Both have great messages in theory but when they're interviews in motion , it's just so contrived , both try too hard to display a certain type of image and it comes off as a little pretentious. Another thing ; both also talk to the interviewers in a way that makes it obvious that they're trying to compel other people through their beauty .. it's like they're aware they're gorgeous and they're trying to flaunt it subtly. Now this isn't a personal attack , as I love both but the way they carry themselves sometimes makes me.. irritated.

It seems to me like gorgeous people are under so much more pressure than ugly people. It sounds sad, but I think it's true. People really can't help the way they're born...whether they're given an ugly face or a beautiful face. I bet if she were not so attractive people wouldn't care so much about what she has to say, or how she says it.

And I used to criticize her too about what she says in interviews, and how she comes off as such a "I'm a saintly goddess" in her interviews. But no one criticizes Jane Goodall for speaking about animal welfare issues. Then again, is it because Angie is such a beautiful, famous celebrity? I stopped criticizing her when I realized I haven't seen and done half the things she has. I have no right to judge her. She is an extraordinary human being and is trying to do good in this insane world. I really think she deserves to be admired.

Yeah. I can't feel cynical enough to critique someone who clearly cares for others, and who is using that empathy to help them. Brad and Angelina do a lot behind the scenes, too, like giving a lot of cash to worthy causes. It isn't about tooting their own horns. They really seem to want to make a difference in this world. At least that is the impression I've always gotten. In any case, their celebrity brings such issues to light for more people,no matter the motives. And that can't be looked down upon, in my books anyhow. But to each her/his own.

I agree that even if she doesn´t try to do it, she can come off as pretentious and "flaunty"

^That's what I mean. I do love Angelina , I am not attacking her personally , just the way she PRESENTS herself , I have defended her multiple times in the past , think she's amazing in certain aspects but I just dislike the way she carries herself. And this isn't contained to her humanitarian work.. when she talks about her 'wild' past it can come across as boastful. And I don't mean it in the sense that she's pleased she was once into self harm etc , what I mean is she seems really intent on sensationalizing her past and hence to me it seems like she uses her past in a way to make her seem more interesting.. like she's trying really hard to push that 'I was once a bad girl' image..

I also have to note she tries to come across as carefree and liberated but I think she has one of the most controlled images in Hollywood..

This being said I honestly do like her , some of her interviews just irk me..

Hola Spain (december 21st, 2011)

(sorry about the fact that the pages are too large for my scanner)

Love that interview she did with Anderson Cooper (two of my favorite people in the same room!). It was interesting to hear from that cast about their experiences during the war and their experiences working with Angelina.

I know pretty much everyone on this thread has a lot of admiration for Angelina but I can't help but once again say how much I respect her. She really does seem like she has a good head on her shoulders. So smart and I love that she really cares about world issues. I've found that so many celebrities claim to be very charitable but they just want publicity. With Angelina I feel like she's doing these things because she actually cares. She understands that she's in a position to help enact change and she wants to make a difference. Also, the fact that she did a film about such a important but rarely discussed topic is quite gusty. She could have chosen to make a "easy film" but instead choose to focus on an important issue. I don't know why but for some reason I can't help but gush about how much I admire Angelina... I don't normally do this with many celebrities.

^^^^ I completely agree, WerbowyStegner. I like her in theory and it's admirable that's she not simply content to be a pretty face: she wants to improve herself and go beyond acting and help others. I also admire that she's one of the most powerful and rich players in Hollywood; not many women get that far and she's worked very hard. Plus, she looks great!

But it bothers me too that she has to continually bring up the 'wild past' thing. Just in case you thought she was too mumsy and homely, she had to bring up the whole "i'm still really wild, it's just all for brad now". Seriously, who cares? Why do you have to prove you're so hardcore? Even when she was in her bad girl phase, on reflection, that period seems really contrived too. She was always talking about how she loved to collect knives and how dark and damaged she was. People who are really like this don't feel the need to shout it from the roof and probably wouldn't feel comfortable doing so. I wonder if maybe because of the whole broken family situation and absent father, she developed an attention seeking personality. I feel like her public persona has almost been a succession of roles played out for the public, not a genuine progression of her character. I don't think any of us get a true view of the the real Angelina in her interviews: it's all smoke and mirrors.

I think sometimes it is the fault of the interviewer. They can certainly ask the most repetitive and/or inane questions sometimes. Occasionally I can't help but guffaw or spit out my drink when I hear some of the quesrions. :)
