I thought the hair on most actresses was badly done. What happened? Ken Pave styled all of them?
My thoughts on actresses who wore pieces from current designers' collections are on the "When Stars Wear Runway Looks" thread. In short, I dislike most of the appearances (Diaz, Blanchett, Barrymore) and my faves are Meryl Streep and Rachel Weisz.
- I thought the giant tiers of black fabric drawfed Penelope Cruz. If the dress was taken in a little more, the Spanish flair could've worked in her favor.
- Emily Blunt's Herve Leger was very well constructed. I loved the separation of the horizontal bands and the ruched tail of the dress, but the jewel/embroidery around the chest was too busy. She has a very defined waist. I am thrilled that she won one award, though not for Prada.
- Eva Longoria's Ungaro was constructed very similarly to Emily's Leger. Eva makes being a diva fun (as opposed to Jennifer Lopez, who takes this whole diva business too seriously), but I just can't appreciate her wardrobe choices. She's always just an extension of her Desperate Housewives character to me.
- Salma Hayek should've stuck to color. She looked amazing in last year's teal Versace. God-awful platform heels. Did she go shoe-shopping with Chloe Sevigny?
- Ali Larter showed too much of her top, in my opinion. Yes, the neckline is risque but still tasteful by Hollywood standards, and she didn't look like she was trapped like Beyonce or about to pop out like Salma Hayek, but I think given her figure she could've chosen something less plain.
- Naomi Watts looked really uncomfortable in an uncharacteristic Gucci. Too bad, because she really needs a statement-making dress to promote her Oscar-worthy performance.
- America Ferrerra looked nice in jewel tone. The square neckline is designed for girls like her.
- Hilary Swank's Chanel is not plain, but somehow appears so on her. And the girly curls and pins just don't go with her image.
- Courtney Cox was in an ugly dress, period. I never liked the idea of black chiffon on top of nude satin.
- Both Jessica Biel's and Jennifer Garner's gowns looked cheap. Garner's makeup was, on the other hand, very well done.
- I liked Sienna Miller's dress from behind. J Lo's Marchesa looked like table linen.
- Angelina Jolie transcends fashion. She's in a class by herself, regardless of what she wears.
