She only did those pictures because of Karl. "I am not struck by the exhibitionism that some pregnant women have". She insisted no flesh was to be shown, especially not her belly.
She still wears the same clothes and says “You are never more a woman than when you are pregnant”. She says: “As soon as you are pregnant, people you barely know begin to share their intimacy with you. First it’s about miscarriage then alcohol. Everybody think they are entitled to give you their opinion, to touch you. It is weird, this new relationship."
She gave up her motorcycle but still occasionally drinks and smokes. “As soon as I lit a cigarette, I feel like people are ready to shoot me. tobacco is not that great, for sure. But I diminished, which is quite an achievement considering ma addictive nature.”
[Harumi says: pregnancies in France are treated like some kind of illness. You have to do loads of exams and tests and babies are brought up my doctors, not nurses].
Anna: “Scans (?) [Harumi: I mean the belly scans, you know?], prelevements, the fact that you know the sex before the birth… people talk about the unborn child like a subject, a patient, everything is made to generate stress. Lots of people experience pregnancy as an illness, you become a patient. I read an article in ‘Le Monde’ who explained that watching pregnancies that much will lead to the selections of babies.”
Her baby will be born in March and in April she will go back to work (a play).
She lives with Samuel and his 8 years-old son with the late Marie Trintignant, Jules. “Seeing him is what made me want a child. Jules is an exceptional little boy, he is not just a child, he is a individual. I never dreamt of making a family until meeting his dad.”
About the film: “I started filming at the beginning of last year, then Sergi Lopez had an accident, then the set took fire, then we run out of money. When we started filming again in January I was 5 month pregnant. In April, everything should be over: the movie and the baby. It took me 28 years to find myself”.
She didn’t have any craving, morning sickness nor illnesses [harumi says: I think we can all officially hate her now] which doesn’t help her stop her excesses. But she doesn’t stand being disrespected now: “It is out of the question that someone talks to me rudely, I deal with it immediately”.
She writes her own movie: “pregnancy is a great period of creativity”.
“[Karl] has photographed Samuel (who supports Segolène Royal for presidency). At Chanel, the body is never exhibited, the woman is never an object, a product of consommation. It’s rare.”
