Anna Wintour received a pie in her face !

No offence, but what's the use of such violent images? Do you think that there's anybody who doesn't know how the leather is taken off the animals? Is there anybody who may actually think that animals enjoy being killed and deprived of their fur? I think this is the main problem in PETA's strategy: the use of violence (both in images and in gestures). You can't fight violence with violence. Remember Mahatma Ghandi...

Oanodobre, I perfectly understand your point... :flower: But seriously, aside from shocking videos (and what else...), could you name me at least 5 EFFECTIVE strategies to get people's attention.....?!

Nowadays, the sad reality is people do not REALISE how important this issue is..! they don't have time to spend reading pamphlets or getting phone calls for donations..... !

And i am pretty sure a LOT of people are pretty ignorant as to what is going on behind the MAKING of their fur clothing.....

Sorry, Kimkhuu, but if the only solution to an issue is the use of violence, I don't think the issue is worth it. I think that PETA should rather concentrate on finding intelligent and non-violent ways of drawing the attention, instead of accepting the easiest ones: mockery and violence. If they can't find such solutions, maybe they are not the men and women fit for the cause.

Oanodrobe (by the way, I respect you so much for always bringing out punchy arguments but always remaining respectful! you go girl! ), I understand.... but they're not USING violence by showing such videos, they're only showing to people the already existing violence that people are themselves directly creating by supporting the use of fur for clothes. It's a sad reality some people ignore... showing such shocking images have HUGE chances of stopping one from buying fur in the future..

Kimkhuu, thank you for your kind words. But such an argument could also be used by people who direct, finance or write screenplays which abound in violence. "We are showing you and your children blood, killing and monstruosity so that you can see how bad war is. We are showing you how a woman is raped so that you never commit r*pe". Would you agree with such arguments in these situations? Do you think they are really effective?

I've always found pies quite sinister since my school put on a show of Bugsy Malone when I was ten, and the gangsters killed people with custard pies, and custard guns.

do we even know if she cared that much? i mean if she did she takes herself a bit too seriously.. and i mean did they smash this thing in her face? or just kinda throw it at her? theres a big difference.

Maybe they are only trying to convince her to change her hairstyle..

:lol: :rofl::lol:

Plus, she really should be getting used to this by now, she's had so much practice...maybe Vogue could do a feature on pie-proof fashion, beauty and hair? Pie Victim Etiquette and Decorum?

actually i had no idea that was what happened until i saw that video :flower:

I'm sorry for being such an ignorant, but what did Anna Wintour do?
I've always ignored her...

That was really sickening...

There are probably equally horrible videos of what humans do to other humans though...

And there equally horrible video of what humans do to other "non-cute animals" that people eat. But who cares about them? Cows, Chickens and pigs are ugly, they deserve to have that done to them, right?

And please, Celinechic, it would be more than respectful not to draw conclusion as to what is going on in my head too fast... Please do not try to read btwn lines, I NEVER SAID I SUPPORTED the use of leather....!

Sorry Kimkhuu but every response you've given was all heart and no reasoning. Like someone said before just because you think its wrong doesn't mean everyone else does.

There are natives of Canada, tribes of Africa, and Natives of Australia that would think your views are just cookoo, maybe you should go throw pies in their favce because according to you the deserve it since they think skining animals is ok.

She is Editor in Cheif of US Vogue. PETA dislikes her because they think all North Americans are iggnorant and all buy fur when she has fur in her magazine.

As a Vogue reader I'm extremely insulted by PETA, who seem to think that all Vogue readers are so feeble minded that they must go out and buy everything in the magazine edited by Wintour.

I don’t know you and have never seen you, but in any case, my comment wasn't directed towards you but at everyone in general.

The double standard of not wanting to hurt the cute ones but feeling ok about killing the non-cute ones is hypocritical and shallow.

I could compare it to someone finding it ok to beat up on ugly people but finding it wrong to beat up on good looking people.

Celinechic, on that argument, wouldn't it be ok to throw a pie at anna wintour?:P

Kimkuu I hope you show the same enthusiasm about the human needs of the poor of this world... in my opinion they are way more important and I haven't seen Mr Bush and the rest getting any pies for it.... and the excuse of the 'shock factor' used by Peta is plain silly because this is what the terrorists use as their excuse... if Peta or other similar organisations are not getting the attention they think they deserve it's probably because they don't.... there are much more serious issues with humanity rather than eating or wearing animals which are actually bred for this purpose... plus, before you say anything on my last phrase, people ARE trying to do things about species which are likely to extinct, in a civilised way... there are laws, petitions etc.... now, I know that even these protected animals do get hunted by people who break these laws, but people DO get killed too by people who break the laws... and some of them never get punished... they get elected instead... Now THERE'S something we should fight for...
