is everyone loving their iPhones? i really want one! i don't talk a lot on my phone (probably less than 100 anytime minutes and around 500-600 night/weekend minutes per month) but i'm moving to Chicago soon and i think a lot of the features (especially turn by turn maps and business location searches) would be nice for someone who doesn't know where anything is in a new city!
i'm not too concerned about the one time cost of the phone itself but more with the monthly cost of the plan and two-year agreement. i could definitely get by with the most minimal plan, since the only difference i can see between the various plans is the number of anytime talk minutes. iPhone owners, what has your experience with this been?

I thought the pricing was outrageous so I didn't get one, and didn't expect to get one, but then they just had to knock $200 off of it! I got one and it's my absolute favorite phone... ever. I absolutely hate AT&T (I find myself getting "no service" more than I have on any other phone... ever) but I love the phone so much! It sucks. 
To answer some of the above posts questions: I've dropped my phone twice and it has only gotten a few dinks in the aluminum which is, naturally, easy to dink. Other than that it has never broken on me. I'm not sure where you got that idea from. It's actually so sleek I find it sliding everywhere when I drop it instead of hitting, bouncing, and breaking like other phones.
The iPhone is exclusive with AT&T. Apple signed (unfortunately) a 5 year contract with them. I'm hoping they'll branch out in the next few years and pop up with other carriers with slight cosmetic differences (just like BB does).
The iPhone and iPod touch are completely different... one's a phone, one's an iPod. Which do you want? It would be ridiculous to buy a phone if you don't use it as a phone, so if you're looking for an iPod, get the touch. I've played with the iPod Touch and it's exactly like the iPhone only slimmer and lacking the phone features.
If you buy the iPhone and don't set it up for AT&T, I'm fairly certain you can still play with the phone. The only thing that won't work is the browser (you'll have to use it like a wifi browser) and the phone features. Just get an iTouch though. Seriously, it's silly to get an iPhone now if you don't want a phone!
I think the iPhone pretty much has everything the iTouch has. The iTouch may have a few games (I really don't remember and don't feel like going to Apple's website to read) becuase all the iPods had games in them, but that's about it.

Thanks Gwen. I'm using Verizon and unlikely to switch to AT&T any time soon. I know a few stores that can unlock your iphone so you can use it under any phone services like verizon, cingular... (Shhh) and it only costs you 30 bucks. But i think i need a double check on this... Anyway, about the ipod touch, they're both $300 and the iphone has everything the ipod touch has (right?) . It's just that the Ipod has a bigger storage but 4GB is enough for me. But hey, iphone doesn't feature any games !?!

Actually if you know enough, I'm told that you can re-program the iPhone yourself and make it fit with any phone company... which was what my uncle did.
Or you can take it to a computer hardware store and get it re-programmed there. 
I'm thinking of getting one for my mom for her birthday in January.

No, no no! Don't think you can hack your phone and change carriers! The iPhone update
(that came out months ago) will actually fry your phone if it detects any other cell phone carrier SIM card. Unfortunately, you are forced to be with ATT if you want an iPhone. Or you just can't update your phone ever once you get it. It does indeed suck but... I love my phone so much I'll put up with ATT---for now.

i have my heart set on getting the itouch thing after discovering it today.
Any opinions to make me change my mind? Are there any alarming deficiencies? I'm not worried about memory space.

How could the iPhone work on Verizon? The iPhone uses GSM technology and Verizon's network is CDMA. I think if you unlocked it the only other network you could use it on would be T-Mobile's.
Simply get the touch if you don't want a phone. One is a phone, one is an iPod. They are not the same.
It was possible until they sent out the latest update. The update disables hackers from hacking into the phone (downloading and editing applications) which also includes taking out your SIM card and using another service's card. NOW if you put a T-mobile card in your phone to use your iPhone on T-mobile's network (this is the same for any network I'm just using T-mobile as an example) the update will recognize this and apparently "fry" your phone. I have not had it happen because the thought terrifies me (and I have always decided to put up with ATT; I love the phone enough to do that) but that's what I read: the update will literally make your phone nothing more than a paper weight if it detects another SIM card.Gwen - So once you unlock your iphone you can't get it upgraded anymore ?!! It's very extreme but on one hand Apple is in with a heavy duty contract with ATT. When ATT found out that the iPhone was fairly easily hackable they probably put a lot of pressure on Apple to do something about it, and this was the only result. It sucks but it's really not the end of the world. Even if you were allowed to use other carriers with your iPhone there are inevitably features on the iPhone that you would not be able to use fully without an appropriate package (the browser for example). So it's kind of a silly thing to do in the first place.

And you're right, the new verison 1.1.2 is not yet able to be unlocked, but you can still jailbreak or downgrade it or something, which i'd never do. It's too much work. I just switched to Verizon a few months ago after AT&T and there's no way i'm gonna switch back to it. However, i'm still getting myself an iphone and use it as an ipod until i get crazy enough to open another line for my own (which seems like i will, BAHA). Here's another question,
"About connections, not all earplugs/headsets will fit into the jack since it’s reported to be a extra deep connection. Some accessory manufacturers are going to sell $40 adaptors just to get their standard earphone jacks to work with the iPhone properly. Be ready to add $40 to your purchase price! "

oh no!
well i'm not in the US so the whole AT&T..etc does not effect me except that i can't update it
my reason for hating it are:
1-The Contacts are not copied directly from the SIM card
2-there are no message forwarding or sending to many option
3- the ringtones options are very limited
4-bluetooth doesn't work

I lost my blackberry, someone found it and is holding it ransom. They want way too much so I'm just going to get a new phone. I want the BB curve but I'm not really sure. Has anyone tried both the curve and the iphone?
