Probably their best collection since their look book days. It’s still a bit presumptuous in certain ways, but I also think there are some intriguing ideas, too. I also see a big leap in construction techniques and finishing standards. That’s nice to see from a young brand.
What struck me more than anything, though, was that this collection of their’s in particular felt like these two are the successors to Christopher Kane. Where Kane started so strong the first several years of his brand, and has now faded into some frustrating corner of false starts and dead ends, Area could be the one to carry on that torch of wacko glamour and sex appeal.
Overall, not bad. If they continue to push themselves in concept and execution, they could eventually reach great results, if this collection is any indication of what could come. If they get complacent, though, I fear that this won’t be enough.
