Armpit hair: gross or sexy?

^Even in Europe it's unusual

I lived in Germany when I was younger and every time we went to the pool, the majority of the girls did not wear any tops. They weren't doing it to seem "sexy" but that it was more comfortable. Plus, they were like 10 anyway..... :D

Sorry if I traumatized you guys! Didn't mean it!

Here are some more

Well think about it, EVERYONE gets it (unless you get some sort of surgery). But why be ashamed of something that comes naturally?

it is true that everyone has armpit hair but that doesnt mean it should stay
those pics make we all squeasy

Well, if you apply the same logic, why should we use deodorants or wear underwear in summer? it's natural not to. It's all social constraints I guess.

Ahh! It is horrid! When you watch old gymnastic videos, the woman gymnasts have it :yuk:

i'm definitely not a fan of armpit hair  i don't like it on women, but i don't want men to *shave* their armpits either. i find men's armpits gross in general, keep your arms down/wear tops with sleeves

not that i'm german, but when i swim in my parents' pool (in the middle of nowhere) and there are no guests over i mostly don't wear a top either. they just don't stay in place when you do laps  and i don't have the biggest boobs anyway.

interesting topic .. seems it's much more high maintenance to be a woman. shave the armpit, shave the legs and sometimes....shave the little moustache  as a guy, it's not a must that you have to--not everyone will be surprised or be completely disgusted

SHAVE? hahaha, YOU WISH! How about Pulling your hair out with a mechanical device? Plucking? Waxing? Bleaching? Shaving is probably the easiest thing ever . But it only works on certain areas.

^ I couldn't think of a word that would cover all those 'techniques'
I guess 'remove hair' is the best one... I want to try waxing! Cold wax!

Epilating is the one where you pull with a mechanical device, no? Does it hurt a lot?

I definitely hate it, but I do also realise that it's just based cultural background. I mean, if I would have been told when I was a child that armpit hair is beautiful...then I might have a rather different opinion.

Yeah, I think it's the most painful. Hot wax is a lot easier, cause it opens your pores. Epilating is the one with a little mechanical machine. It hurts like freaking HELL  ar first, but you get used to anything.

Can't stand hairy armpits on women or men. I think it looks really unhygeinic & like the person can't be bothered to look after themself properly.

no, no and no.
it's not really about some mental aesthetic (partly but not entirely!), it's about hygiene really, I understand if someone in Europe, Siberia or whatever refuse to wax (or shave), it's perfectly normal as there aren't many chances of sweating like a wrestler and you're covered up most of the time, but for people in America who happen to live near the desert, I think it's disgusting not to wax.. especially if you don't drink that much water and you're bound to have a 'stronger' odor, all the sweat will not follow its natural course and will confine there, in your armpit hair!. which I'm thinking, it eventually leads to blocked pores and stuff, non?. It's really gross. and it's not even 'nice'-looking hair anyway, it's like having pubic hair on your cheeks. but I know I might be drifting here.:P

When I visited family in China, my (female) cousin caught me getting rid of my pit hair. I don't think it's normal for females in China to remove pit hair, especially when they have so little body hair in general. She asked me why I was doing it, and I believe I answered, "Just because"; couldn't think of anything really specific. She just looked at me funny, and shook her head in a "those crazy Americans..." sort of way.

I think unruly eyebrows are a bit ugly, especially when they're so easy to improve, but I don't think pit hair is ugly. But, I do get rid of mine, because I fear social stigma:ninja: haha

I heard that armpit hair actually helps with sweat and odor when you use deodorant, because there are more surfaces for the deodorant to adhere? I heard this, so correct me if I'm wrong; I haven't seen this in action in myself or anyone around me

Well, maybe it's because I come from Hippie-fornia, but armpit hair really doesn't bother me on both men and women.

It's just hair, and people without it are no more hygienic than people with it. Like just about anything it can be attractive on some people and unattractive on others. . .it all just depends on the person. I used to know a girl who didn't shave either her armpits or her legs (plus she would, omgzors, wear tank tops and shorts) and I can honestly say she was one of the most gorgeous people I've ever seen.

It's just a silly beauty standard that has been created. A few hundred years ago Puritan women used to shave their armpits, because armpit hair was seen as sensual and sexy on a woman (and ya know, the Puritans weren't too down with that).

Who knows, maybe in a few hundred years we'll have people going "Can you believe that in the past people used to shave their armpits?!" to which everyone else will respond with "Gross!" and little puke-y faces. :P

I"m amazed by how people find it "gross" and "disgusting"...come on...it's body hair...and as long as you wash then it's clean...and it's natural :/
