Ashish N Soni S/S 06 New York

It all looks very 'heavy' and 'weighed-down'.
Not very uplifting for a spring/summer collection.....

Yes, not very summery, but boy do I like this. I think it all looks perfect and beautiful. Major downpoint on the not summery thing though, pitty...

Yea I agree with most of you guys. Women would catch heat strokes if they wore that in the summer :ninja:...but I like some of the stuff. Mostly the ones with a bit more color

I see too much indian and middle east clothes in the collection. Agree with BeLLa and Dixie...we need a little skin...

I agree with you.... it's too much smell of indian and middle east.
I don't like this collection
:yuk:

Looks like some oldfashioned pieces mixed in with updated pieces. Not a huge fan of the collection, none of it are items I would personally wear.

far too ethnic but there are few quite nice pieces here and there
like scott, i dont mind the tones of grey but like everyone said, the total mood is a bit heavy for summer

I'm a bit puzzled by what you mean by "far too ethnic"? I notice that a few others have noted this as well, so I was certainly not trying to pick on you in the least. Just curious as to when a certain collection oversteps the bounds of global homogeneity and becomes "too ethnic". I mean, if a designer tries to base an entire collection on say inspiration from Edwardian England, or indeed on Parisian styles of the 1920s, is that universal and hence acceptable or would that be called "too ethnic" as well at some level? And let me state here that I find designers like Yamamoto for instance, or even YSL in his devotion to French chic to be ethnic in the best possible sense.

as a designer looking at this collection, i see some interesting ideas that can be developed into something stronger for the future. i dont like it all, i think some of the skirts are badly proportioned, but overall it is one of the best collections ive seen for new york fashion week so far.

I'll give it many, many points for attempting something in the right direction, volumes, layers, neutrals etc. - it could have been a hit but ended up a miss, I'm afraid. It needs editing, refinement, and the proportions are amiss. I feel bad that they didn't quite deliver it, because the point of departure is right on, though not particularly original.:)

it's very mixed, there are a lot of pieces that i like though, and i do like the indian influences. there's a beautiful play with silhouettes and i don't mind the heaviness at all, there's so much floral and pastel going on in other collections already. what i really like is a feeling of dignity about the looks...

thanks for the thread ella h:flower:

A for effort, I guess, for trying to make something other than the "average" New York collection. Unfortunately, the result isn't as appealing to me. I'm not sure if I make any sense, but this collection gives me a feeling of someone trying a little too hard.

I love all the white, gray and black pieces (esp the 2 first photos) but I don't like the folk costume-y pieces at all. And I love gray-white-black for the summer, so I'm happy :woot:

I think this is definitely one of the better collections of NYFW. It is a bit wintry but the shapes and sillhouettes are amazing!
