I agree with the thought posted by someone else that what is Ms Wixon doing posing like that in that canary yellow onesie.
But wait - canary yellow onesie - couture?
I'm not one for essentialism or freezing things in time - far from it, but this collection does pose the question what, and who, is couture for any more?
Surely Versace and Couture always have to be a bad fit? Versace is simply too mid market (putting it nicely) to be part of the Couture scene?
The partial answer to that question who for? - in the context of Versace, is no doubt that it's for celebrities, or anyone, with money but absolutely no class or taste.
Those Versace wearers who'll get their status kicks from being able to say (because no doubt they will 'say', in their vulgar manner), that they're wearing 'couture' get the cache of the word from associations with exclusivity and elegance.
I don't mind a bit of sexy but there's a line. And probably the line is drawn differentially in couture than it is in RTW. Donatella with this collection crossed that line. Into Vulgarity. And in doing so she exploits and cheapens the very notion of couture.
The correct riposte therefore to persons sporting Versace couture is ok it's couture but only Versace couture. Kind of the Serie B of couture.
Donatella is killing the canary that laid the golden egg.
My abiding visual image of this collection will be Ms Wixon clucking about like something out of Sesame Street.
