i dont think lauren bacall sounds snooty. just speaks the truth. nicole kidman isn't a legend. she's just a popular actress.

well actually think about it...........who's won the OSCAR
not lauren!!

just because she's 80 years old next year and nicole is only in her 30's doesnt mean sh*t. nicole has been in movies for 20 years now.

but ms bacall didn't call herself a legend either...she just said that nicole can't possibly be called that at this point in her life...it's too soon...it's ridiculous...only time will tell...

purple...you forgot bette davis, marilyn monroe, cary grant, doris day, liberace, frank sinatra, rock hudson, sammy davis, lena horne, kirk douglas, jerry lewis, dean martin, bob hope, bing crosby, ...and the title can be applied to sports figures as well...mickey mantle, pele, joe namath, etc...

but it refers to a career over the span of a lifetime...and nicole's barely hit middle age...so it simply doesn't apply...period... :P

Bacall is old skool hollywood glamour and can pretty much get away with any comment really!
I think for someone who has worked alongside greats such as Marilyn Monroe,Nicole Kidman aint even close to being in the "legend" category.

Bacall deserves to be full of herself...

Exactly. Bacall is a true legend. Although Kidman's career is rather remarkable already, she can't go be a legend at what, 36?

I love how direct and honest Bacall always is, as brutal or snotty as she tends to sound. But those things make one memorable.

I couldn't possibly forget about them, I was just being picky.

purplelucrezia, you say it all so well! :flower:

I still haven't warmed to Nicole Kidman, she is still entirely unconvincing and unmoving a performer to me.

Has anyone else noticed that she has a different hairstyle for every single movie she has been in? Perhaps to make her role more convincing and to disguise her lack of versatility?

Totally agree.

Kidman is a very talented actress and is among the Hollywood elite of today, but, as most of you have said, it's too soon to call her a legend. I don't think it's so much because of her age, I mean, look at James Dean and Marilyn Monroe, they both died at an earlier age then Nicole, but fifty-something years after their deaths they're still highly regarded. That's the true test, will anybody care about Nicole's work fifty years from now?

I love Marilyn Monroe to death - but her acting abilities aren't 'legendary'. She became a legend because of her death (and the rumours surrounding it), relationships and sexuality. It had nothing to do with the way she read her lines or the movies she made..

The reason why I stated Lauren Bacall sounded jealous is because of the way she answered the reporter. IMO it made her sound bitter. Had she of laughed it off, it wouldn't of been that good a deal, I mean after all she is Lauren Bacall - so who cares what some reporter says...

I think Nicole is far from a legend and don't really like many of her movies, I once had the displeasure off being in the same restaraunt as her & found her to be extremely snooty and pretentious, but when Lauren Bacall stoops to the level of bad mouthing a co-star in an interview when she is supposed to be promoting the movie they made together, it just reflects badly on HER.

Legends are unverified by nature...

And are a rare - nearly extinct - feature nowadays... :innocent:

I think that Nicole Kidman will definently become a legend. I'll bet all my money on it.

Lauren Bacall? Never heard of her before. Sounds like a jealous old shrew.

Sounds like self-satisfied ignorance to me. :winkiss:

In 1941, How Green was My Valley beat out Citizen Kane; a good measurement?

I liked "How Green was My Valley" and thought "Citizan Kane" was pretty dull. But that's beside the point. Lauren didn't call herself a legand (though I would call her one)- she just said Nicole wasn't one. I think that's true, however, she is a potential legand. Of course there is no way of knowing how her work will stand the test of time, but she IS a beautiful woman and a great actress who (usually) chooses good roles. BTW she wore the same hair in "My Life", "Malice", "Dead Calm", "Far and Away", "Portrait of a Lady", and "Days of Thunder". She wore similar styles in "Batman" and "Moulin Rouge" and in "The Others","To Die For", and "Dogville" also. All of these were VERY different roles, She is extremely versitile.

I think these films have the potential to stand the test of time:
Moulin Rouge
The Others
The Hours
Cold Mountain
Malice
Dead Calm
Dogville
Portrait of a Lady
To Die For

Lauren Becall was and is talented and elegant she is a "living legand" and in 50 years Nicole may reach that status. Maybe she's never won an Oscar but look at some of the films she's done:
To Have and Have Not
The Big Sleep
Key Largo
Dark Passage
Blithe Spirit
Sex and the Single Girl
Murder on the Orient Express
Misery
Dogville

Lauren Bacall may be right ,Nicole Kidman isn't a legend (yet), but she could have said it in a more elegant way. She does sound bitter.

Even though i completely agree with whta she said, she has got to be one of the most rudest icons i have ever heard, all her interviews on tv were appaling

Lauren Bacall comes across as bitter old women. All her interviews make you want to punch her. AND she was never a good actress or beautiful. she was a hollywood wife a la Kidman. Maybe jealous?

^I don't agree with you on that one, she is in fact a very good actress, it's just an added bonus that she was married to Humprey Bogart

I think you can have standards and opinions without becoming bitchy. Lauren also recently complained theat todays actreses are to focused on they're careers to be good wifes to there husband! Stone ages or what? Bacall and Kidman are friends and I also agree that Kidman is not a legend.
