Balmain S/S 2009 Paris

ughhhhh!
Another masterclass of bad taste. I'm obsessed. I consider myself 100% guilty.

This is so bad that it's good. And what matters about his Balmain wasn't even the clothes: it's about the mood. Damn, I watch the show and I'd die to be friend of that girl. So confident, so fresh!

It's crazy -and quite sad- to think that not much ago fashion used to be something completely different.

Really? I don't think it's bad taste at all. New Balmain is bad taste.

This collection is what got me into fashion.

I always preferred the previous one (FW2008) and the next one (FW2009) but this was such a fun collection! The world was in the middle of a financial crisis and this collection was the perfect F*** the crisis! Sexy, borderline trashy with all the codes of euro-trash but so well executed and styled in a perfect way! Balmain was such a small house at the time (their historic shop felt dusty) and everything was sold-out despite the excessive prices. It's so funny to think that 10 years ago, people were outraged by 1000$ t-shirts!

Even if I got to own pieces from the Decarnin era later, what I really loved about that era was how influential it was. Everybody kinda dressed the same (at their own price range and with sometimes other brands). There's a style when people are dressed like you.
I was a Balenciaga girl at the time but I definitely wanted a piece of Balmain.

I think I got what he means. All the codes of bad taste are there but it is so well done that it is impossible to hate! Balmain by Decarnin was evocative of what in fashion, is generally considered as trashy or tacky and quite removed from the idea or concept of Parisian chic (and at the time Balenciaga and Lanvin were the definition of Parisian chic) but it became the epitome of Parisian chic at the time. Emmanuelle and Decarnin did a fantastic job.

Olivier does lack that touch but what is interesting is that he actually came from Cavalli whereas Decarnin worked with Paco Rabanne and Apostrophe. Decarnin was certainly able to add some street edge to his Couture training when Rousteing certainly lacks in subtlety, something that is attributed/attached to Cavalli.
