Balmain S/S 2009 Paris

I guess it does on this collection...but I cannot say that it looks bad on this models,, although for me to really say that something is really good I have to take it out context and see if it still stands. If this said Cavalli instead of Balmain would the reactions be the same? Would I like any of this dresses if I didn't knew the brand saw a footballers wive wearing it. Because lets be real this Collection is more Cavalli than Cavalli and it will totally cater the taste of those with more money than sense.

Hm, I see what you're saying but for me personally the animal prints and the overtly sexiness of it all is all on the surface. i see a lot of structure and geometry in this collection, something that i think roberto cavalli lacks.

i think there's definitely some experiments with shape and form here. that dress on anja looks so futuristic yet so damaged i can see the eds already! :D i don't think this collection caters to the same audience as cavalli. cavalli's clothes are mostly about the flow of the clothes.

though i will say that i think that i think this collection can and should reach a broad audience. if people can put their own style onto these items than all the power to them and i'm exicted to see what they put together.

I'll probably get a lot of flack for saying this because people are going to say that I'm insulting their intelligence to make an opinion based strictly on the clothing. But...

If this was under Dolce, Versace, or Cavalli..Most of the comments would say how this is trashy, unimaginative, and cheap.

I like this but it looks very Cavalli/Versace 2002-05. The mesh, the chiffon are Versace signatures and I'm not saying that noone can use them but he used them in a way that Versace has already done.

im guessing those sequined peices will go for at like 7-10k
the gowns will prbably reach upwards to 15-20

I see some ancient egyptian influence, especially in the green and black dresses. hieroglyphs are shown on jeans and shoulders.

ohmy this is just so so wonderful!
although i have to say i absolutely HATE those dresses (the "long" ones..)
the shoes are perfect and so is the rest of the collection! lovely

i would love to have a balmain dress.. they're so sexy but not like sluty

Anja, Natasha and Anna have the best looks IMO. The multi-beaded jacket on Natasha is to die for.

I am still not able to get over last season, and overall this cannot compare. I think if he completely edited out the gowns, the collection would be much stronger and effective. Instead, I think the long dresses really cheapen everything else.

The shoes are stunning though.

the clothes look worst in detail. not better. the rhinestones look way cheaper, and the little threads sticking off anja's dress are annoying. and the studded stuff doesn't look half as nice as it could. perphaps they started using cheaper materials?

it's true that the comparison of last season with this season black dresses a couple of pages ago is a bit depressing... but it's also true that THE specific dress chosen to represent this season wasnt the most beautiful... :judge:
what i think stands out from this season are the "new" shouldered jackets, the use of colour, the work put into the embellishing of every piece... so maybe it's not his best season of draping and refinement (at times it gets just a bit more vulgar than the fascinating winter season), but it is a nice collection as a whole!!

Ok, I LOVE the Hussar jackets...I've always loved Hussar jackets, always will.

However...this is just the same thing season after season with Balmain. There's a difference between establishing house signatures and sending out the same collection every season.

i love half of it and hate half of it. i love the wide shoulder pieces and the minidresses like the ones on natasha, lara stone and anja, the jackets on lily, eniko, kim noorda and maryna and the black skirt on lara stone... but those half long/half short dresses are just ugly, the pink one on lily donaldson is a catastrophe actually...the black one on anna s. is the only one that wouldn't make a woman look ridiculous. christophe should learn with theyskens (yes, not with donatella:yuk:) how to make this kind of dresses look good.

I love, love, love, the jackets with the emphasis on the shoulder. Really great way to put a spin on the collection seeing as most of it looked similar to previous seasons.. Regardless the pieces were beautiful and very wearable :D.

i think you point there was spot on!
the thing is i wouldnt mind balmain being mostly the same season after season if decarnin had been able to maintain the balance between elegance and sensuality and modernity and sexuality... he has leaned too much to vulgarity in this occasion and the whole think doesnt look so good as a whole (still there are exceptional pieces like the jackets you mentioned, some pants, and some of the hot short dresses)

Ok, I LOVE it all. The jacket on Kim in particular is to die for and may be my favorite piece from this collection.
