Basso & Brooke S/S 07 London

These guys should leave the stupidness to Galliano.

Wow.

I really love Basso & Brooke, this is my favorite so far. So incredibly fresh w/o any tiredness a 20s feel would normally bring.

It's too crazy for my taste. The hair is awful, especially to Lily. There was a few nice dresses, but Basso & Brooke was never one of my favourties and will never be.

I agree Diorling, it feels like a really fresh take on 20's style but still very 20's. I mean the whole 20's safari jungle fever thing is very 20's but at the same time, the colours/prints feel very fresh. Some people are saying galliano/kenzo but i see a lot of old versace in this. i love it. For me thus far, the strongest collection from lfw

^^^Yes it may be strong, but strong is not always good. Its easy to be strong.

^That sounds like a very empty statement.... do you mind clarifying?

I agree with Meg and Diorling - the take on 20's is not too contrived and yes I'm getting some Kenzo/Dior from it but I think they've taken their themes and worked them through intelligently. There's nothing arbitrary or random about their use of colour or choice of prints.

susie, agree with that post on every level. The themes all work together and compliment each other, reenforcing everything.

I meant to say that it's easy to create a strong look. But these guys have done it with madness. Everything looks thrown on top of each other, and messy.

.. i love it. :) I always like Basso & Brooke. So creative... and although it does not matter to me either way, their looks are usually rather wearable.

Thanks for clarifying your point. I disagree though. It's very easy to take one look at Basso & Brooke and say it's 'messy' whereas if you look closely, the choices they make are well thought out and there's a point behind it. It isn't just random and thrown together (a la Heatherette....)

It's very good. I was a bit apprehensive after the kitschy train wreck that was their S/S 06, but this is definitely a big step in the right direction. There's a nice balance of humour and restraint, and they've even managed some attractive silhouettes as well.

The looks with the tights remind me of some of Bernhard Willhelm's older collections...

I meant A/W 06, of course.

Thanks a lot for the detail shots, esquire. That's a lot to take in!

I don't really like this collection. A few pretty outfits though.
