I have started working out again (getting my body back in shape for good this time) :) And I am one of those individuals who needs to have something on my stomach (i've had too many fainting episodes in my life). Any suggestions on foods to eat before working out? I do spinning three days a week and low impact aerobics & body scuplting 3 days a week. I rest on Sunday.

Your suggestions will be most appreciated. :flower:

you need carbohydrates for energy, so i would recommend an apple or a banana

I would eat a meal high in carbs. However, I suggest carb sources that have low glycemic indices. These foods cause your blood glucose levels to rise steadily, which is good because you need the energy throughout your workout. Here's a link to a website that would enable you to search for foods with low glycemic indices: http://www.glycemicindex.com/

I would suggest eating your meal about 1.5 to 2 hours before your workout. This would give time for your body to digest and break down your meal.

A glass of milk, a banana and a 1/2 protien shake. The other half should come after your workout.

Perfect thing would be a fresh fruit smoothie with a capful of protien powder.

That sounds like a great idea :flower:

an apple and a few almonds, with just a swallow of soy milk is what i usually have. and a big glass of water!

i have a banana or some frosted mini wheats, followed by some sips of soy milk

Dairy before a strenuous workout is definitely not a good idea (The result signified by this emoticon ).

^agreed. Dairy not a good idea...

Try eating a fruit, and LOTS of water. [not too much]

I fainted a couple of times myself when I didn't give much attention.

make sure you are hydrated before- but dont drink a whole lot directly before you work out it can cause cramping. I'd say protien bars are a good option if you can find one you like and is low in calories and fat.

Experts say your best bet is a light snack w/ protein and complex carbs - peanut butter toast, for example, w/ a few banana slices is almost perfect.

And don't forget to remain hydrated. :flower:

i've just discovered this- if what you eat is high in sodium you sweat less (der.) and i'm a person that likes to sweat out all those gallons i've been drinking so i've changed my recommendation from a protien bar to something fresh- the fruit is a great idea.

Try to eat your meals at least an hour before you workout.
Personally I can't exercise on a full stomach - I'll making gagging noises on the treadmill and I feel really uncomfortable.

And yea - bananas, nuts, are the best choices :)

You may want to research hyponatremia.
