Health Food Beginner

Well, I cut out soda from my diet when I was about 10 years ago - I rarely ever have it now. I also try to stick to fruit juice cocktails as far as possible when am drinking.

Lots of seasonal fruit - mangoes, strawberries, grapes, guava etc etc

I lovvve cheese but only eat a few thin slices each time.

I try to cook in olive oil as much as possible. Also instead of using butter I paint my bread with extra virgin olive oil.

I use milk with 1.8% fat content

Hmm, I make a salad everyday with different vegetables and a healthy dressing I have concocted.

I love fish and meat ... although I live in a vegetarian household so this is difficult.
I've made steamed fish even ... only takes about 6-8 minutes to cook and requires no oil at all!

I dont use more than one egg yolk when am making breakfast. One egg yolk has half the amount of cholestrol your body can take in a day. But the yolk does have a lot of vitamins - so there is no need to cut it out totally. Cooking it in olive oil makes it healthier too.

Also I try to use raw sugar and jaggery in my tea!

Snow-white, whats jaggery?
I am trying my hardest, for breakfast I have had strawberries and blueberries in fat free, organic, plain yogurt. I don't know what to have for the rest of the day though. Its hard because my boyfriend doesn't like many "healthy" foods. No salads for him.

actually the best breakfeast are fruits like an apple, with fat free yoghurt. Or if u need some more energy cuz of work, school etc. u can add muesli to your yoghurt or have a slice of wholegrain bread or toast with fat free spread cheese. thats my suggestion

Actually 'fat free' products usually have more sugar in them than the regular fat products. And if they aren't made up of regular sugar, then some other sweetener that might take months for the human body to process. Which is even worse if you let it accumulate for too long. Fat on the other hand is pure energy that the body needs, in small doses then of course.

So if you would want to lose some weight I would recomend eating less, maybe just above the recomended daily intake of calories and take long walks. There really are no short-cuts if anything is to last.

Oh, I just bought two pots of fat free yogurt. I didn't think of that. But it was on offer.

Wow, that's good to know Sill! I never knew it took so long for a human body to process sweeteners.

Jaggery is a kind of natural unprocessed sugar.

Contrary to popular belief eating fruits for breakfast is not healthy because they are acidic. The stomach produces a lot of acids through out the night so its better to eat something like toast and eggs, muesli and milk and fruit only after that.

Also, one needs to be careful while choosing muesli because some are loaded with sugar. Its also better to buy yoghurt which has no added sugar...

It may seem like a lot of work in the beginning but there are just so many healthy options out there.

If you want to avoid the sugar in yogurt you can simply buy natural unsweetened kind. It tastes really good with berries. & if you're worried there's too much sugar in your muesli, you can always make your own. It's not difficult ^_^

I checked my yogurt and it says the only sugar it contains is the ones naturally occuring in the milk. So thats OK I suppose. Unavoidable sugars. I might start having a slice of toast first though in future, cos of the acid stuff.
I have done well today though, for my tea I had wholewheat pasta with roasted peppers, courgettes, onions and garlic and then I blended some plum tomatoes for a bit of sauce. It was yummy.

Dont worry ! Tea isnt bad. Just dont use sugar or honey u can use "zero calorie sweetness" Tea is good if u have problems to drink much water and if u want to lose weight its the best way to feel full without drinking calories

Honey can be good for you ... using local honey can really help with allergies. You can get it in its completely natural state--I've had it with the honeycomb and all. (No bees :P)

I had a college roommate with type 1 diabetes, and when she needed to raise her blood sugar, she would drink orange juice. (Usually--sometimes a bit of brownie.)

Some fruits are alkaline--like pineapple.

I have never understood how people can eat Mexican food for breakfast. My stomach absolutely rebels at salsa or pico de gallo for breakfast.

Oooh no I couldn't either ^^^ Spice is not for first thing.

I think I am getting good at this whole healthy thing. Made my own soup two nights in a row. Prawn Tom Yam last night and Green lentil and courgette tonight. Yummy.

Packaged dried fruit? If so, those aren't exactly healthy as it's loaded with sugar (high fructose corn syrup). The sugar content is shocking.

I LOVE salsa, I could eat it all the time, even in the mornings. Especially homemade stuff. Too bad it doesn't go well with the oatmeal I usually eat as a breakfast.. :D

It's healthy compared to gummy bears

You really just have to read the package, or the bin label if buying in bulk. Some, like apricots, are just the fruit (sometimes with sulphur, which is nasty). Others, like pineapple, usually have a ton of sugar added to the point that they are extremely caloric. In those cases, you're much better off with fresh fruit ...

Does anyone have any recommendations for healthy food blogs (with recipes)? There seem to be a ton of dessert & tea blogs but I can't find any with actual full meal recipes. Thanks in advance :flower:

No sorry, do not think your fruits are blessed. Fruits are charged with the best nutrients and antioxidants and vitamins or body needs. But then again yes, organic fruits and vegetables and everything good that comes out from the earth is blessed for God put it here for a reason. :flower:

I strongly recommend that you watch the documentary:

The Beautifully Truth.

It is amazing, and maybe you will be depressed for days for having learned such beautiful truths.

Watch the film, it is related to good nutrition and diet, fruits specially.

Everyone it is time to be different! F*CK McDonalds and Junk FOODS! They are truly slowly killing us .... SO ALL watch the FILM : The Beautiful Truth.

I want you all to also share it with your loved ones, at least if you care about your health.

Good Heakth to all,

AmpopBoy.

We are all dying a slow death regardless of what we eat. :innocent:

Grapes, almonds, bitter chocolate and green tea pills are always in my kitchen. I eat flaxseed cornflakes with slivered almonds and papaya chunks for some sweetness. They taste so delicious, it is sickening.

Skin milk, tomatoes and turkey sandwiched made with Russian rye bread are very tasty, and asparagus/broccoli are also what I cook constantly.

Never buy potato chips because I have terrible skin that cannot stand anything too greasy, but Baked Kettle Brand is both organic and very very light. I like it. Never drink coffee. A lot of berries and bananas. And my weakness... PINEAPPLE!!!! I know it has a lot of fructose in it, but i love it so much. Sugary, juicy and sour all at once, and I love the texture and the itchy feeling it leaves. YUM!!!

I also love red meat and fish; all organic of course.

That said, I am not opposed to cheese, baguette, ice cream and the occasional pastry and Thai food, eggs and macaroons. I am trying hard to cut down the Sodium intake, but it is very hard:(

^ Avoiding processed food really helps with sodium, but even so ... there can be a ton in your organic cottage cheese. (I even called the company to ask why in the world they were giving me half the day's sodium or whatever it was, huge amount, in one serving :innocent:)

I've read that eating pineapple is good because our diets are too acidic and it is alkyline (hope I've spelled that right, it looks funny ).
