oooh fun thread! Here are my choices

1. Kings of Leon- Aha Shake Heartbreak- Amazing album from start to finish. And to think, I used to despise them!

2. M.I.A.- Arular- I think this girl is a genius, simply brilliant.

3. Bright Eyes- I'm Wide Awake Its Morning/Digital Ash In A Digital Urn- Not sure which is my favorite, maybe IWAIM for the lyric "God damn!/Make me cry!" From Train Underwater. Conor is a genius, stellar live as well...

4. The Like- Are You Thinking What Im Thinking- Love, LOVE this band! And thats that.

They're both good albums, but i actually like "Digital Ash..." better. Which is surprising for me, because i tend to like folk-y, melodic things more. And i agree - he is a great lyricist. That is often what gets me more than the songs, and especially more than his voice!

^ And i bought Takk mostly because of ravings on here as well, which is why i love threads like this.

I love Take It Easy (Love Nothing) from Digital Ash, that one line "someone might get hurt, but it wont be me!" Genius! And I agree, I love his lyrics alot more than his actual voice. My mom says he sounds like a goat....and I agree!

This is informal b/c i intend on doing a much more well thought out list m=by the end of the year.

I really really loved Brendan Benson's Alternative to Love. this will probably be my favorite this year. What else comes to mind is Doves Some Cities, LCD Soundsystem s/t, My Morning Jacket Z, Spoon Gimme Fiction, and Low Great Destroyer.

I definitely agree with Sufjan and this will for sure be on my list. I can't say much about Sigur Ros b/c I don't have Takk yet. Although I have heard most songs from the album and went to their show

I really really loved Brendan Benson's Alternative to Love.

I have to say i was disappointed by this album (especially compared to One Mississippi). I am definitely looking forward to his colaboration with Jack White though! That should make for some good tunes.

I went to the White Stripes shows a couple months ago and I swear they were playing it after one of the shows were over. It sounded great...I'm sure its done so we should be hearing something soon.

I'm exactly opposite. One Mississippi is my fave, and the most recent is my least. In fairness, i think i need to give it another listen. I think i only listened to it twice. It's kinda neat to find someone else who even likes him though!

Arcade Fire - Funeral (I know it was released in 2004 but in Australia I'm pretty sure we only got it in February).
Sufjan Stevens - Illanois
Sigur Ros - Takk... as always, I love this band. Some people consider it dark music, I honestly find it uplifiting, moving, hopeful, all of that.
M.I.A. - Arular
Vitalic - OK Computer
The Presets - Beams

Bloc Party got a lot of spins from me earlier in the year (saw them live too) and I'll also give mention to Australian band Wolfmother, while they may not have made my top album of the year, they certainly win the award for creating practical hysteria over here in Aust! Beck's Guero was fun, love Girl.
There have been a lot of bands this year where I just haven't been able to/ got around to buying their albums but I agree with everyone else, this certainly hasn't been a dead year for releases.
