Best Self-Tanners

I use "Vaseline Healthy Body Glow Daily Replenishing Moisturizer & Touch of Self Tanner, Medium". It only takes about 2 applications to get a nice color going, and smells like regular lotion. I have to be very careful when applying because I didn't blend well once and got an uneven tan (easily removed with lemon juice). So anyways rub/blend it really well into your skin and wash your hands afterwards and you shouldn't have a problem. It's about $5-7 canadian at wal-mart or $8 at other drugstores.

^^^ muchos thank yous hipkitten! maybe ill actually go buy it this time....:p

I wanted to try the vaseline one- but im SO BAD at blending, does it look at all orangy Erin k? I already had my little fiasco with the jergens....

I love love love the l'oreal sublime glow! I think it smells really nice and it moisturizes well too. I alternate it with Neutrogena Build a Tan, so I don't know how much color it really gives me. I use build a tan to get color faster, and then I use the sublime glow on days that I don't use build a tan, just to maintain the color.

Nope not for me, I gave a medium complexion and just wanted to be a little more bronzed and it worked out well. Although eventually i got tired of applying it every 2-3 days to maintain or deepen the color so i've skimmed a little and only use it twice a week and it keeps up a nice tint. Hope it helps :flower:

OK. I've been using the L'oreal Sublime Glow for a few days. So far, pretty good. I have a few gripes, though: I've gotten some unsightly streaking happening around my ankles and the "shimmer" is a bit overwhelming - I feel like a disco-ball when I go out in the sun. That being said, the overall color/effect is great and I plan to continue using it.

got the Vaseline one, only used it once so I don't know how great the color is, I'll have to wait and see and report back!!

the loreal sublime glow is great except i have to agree with hipkitten about the intense amount of shimmer.

I'm loving the Kiehl's self-tanner... great natural color, easy to apply, NO smell :)

im bummed, i found out that the compay that makes boththe vaseline and loreal products (proctor&gamble) test on animals...this is a big no no for me...maybe i can cheat just this once?....

Garnier summer body works brilliantly for me and also loreal sublime bronze

I personally find the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Gel really good, it applies on well, maybe a little too dark (realizable especially when you wash your hands thoroughly after applying. The hands remain white, while the arm is tanned. It's like tanning with gloves on!). This can be reduced though if you mix it with moisturizer, so the tan turns out lighter and you regulate it better.

Another problem i found is that it goes off pretty fast and doesn't last as long as other lotions. Maybe because it's a gel?

which ones do you know last longer? because I'm trying to find one that'll stay on for some extra days if possible.

I heard Chanel's face tanner is really, really good; thinking about trying that one...

I tried Clarins, which is very good, but it smells... you know, that typical self-tanner smell. I hate it. Another I tried was from a drugstore brand (i think it's either german, austrian or swiss... the drugstore's name is Schlecker).

If you can live with the smell, i'd say Clarins. It's also moisturizing! But maybe try to mix it with a heavily perfumed lotion. Like, I use the Clarins lotion with Jil Sander's "Sun"-scented tanning lotion, to get both SPF & self tan, and to say it's "scented" is the inverse of an exageration. The Sun lotion smells for so long and it nicely covers up the icky self tanner scent.

On another note, usual self tanning lotions develop their tan gradually over at least 3 hours, while the L'Oreal one is quicker and gives you proper results after 1 hour.

I have to agree with the Clarins actually. I did work experience at a hair and beauty salon a while back and they gave me loads of free samples of clarins stuff and I think their self tanner is the best I've tried!!

Anyone tried Johnson's Holiday Skin?
I have...I personally find it not very good at all - went streaky on me and was uneven plus it started coming off in like bobbles, like if you rubbed your skin it would start coming off and looked patchy!

vaseline is awesome...have been using if for about the past week. The color is not noticable right away, which I like because I have pale skin so it's a very gradual process. It's definitely much more of a brown tint than the Jergens, which was orange on me, at least on my skin.

Only problem is Jergen's doesn't have a non-comedogenic one...so none on my face!

I know it sounds cheesy (and it probably is) but the best self-tanner I've ever used is Toma's Tan Perfect - yes, the infomercial stuff. I was addicted to the stuff about 6 years ago. It gave me the most amazing and natural color. I don't use it anymore as I'm not interested in having a dramatic color change (I've embraced my fair skin). I don't know if you can even buy Toma's anymore, but if it is available I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a deep natural looking tan. Bows head in shame
