Best Self-Tanners

Jergens build-a-tan is great for us really pale folk.

I've tried Biotherm, which was great, but that was when I was tanning semi-regularly in a bed (that was a short-lived phase!) So, for those of you with naturally darker skin, Biotherm is good stuff.

Heroin-chic, the colour on the face is always the fastest to go.. it's inevitable with self tanners. But if you apply a build-a-tan every other day, and a 'watered down' version on your face every day (tanner + moisturizer) I think that'd be an experiment worth trying.

I`m Skin-Type 1 (=palest skin), I have sun-allergy and now take Antibiotics for Acne-Treatment, so any sun-contact is prohibited for me

But I`m so damn white & ill-looking AND SICK OF IT!

What can I do? I thought about buying Nivea Self Tanner for light skin but I`m concerned that the aggressive Peelings & Face-waters I use on my face twice a day (for the Acne) will "wash" the Tanner off - a tanned body with a white face (or a face with streams..) would look ridiculous...or should I leave the face off because I always wear Make-Up anyway?

Please help! I`m in total despair

In my post above I've put pics of the ones I've tried. I would recommend that you try Simple self tanning cream. It has no perfume and suitable for sensitive skin. It's not too dark so you will not find it too much for the first time.

This one: The Lancome face self tanning gel is excellent. It contains Vitamin E which is fantastic good for healing the skin of scars etc. I'd try it if I were you, you can use it every day and under your make up. It just gives you a pleasant healthy glow.

Hello everyone! I am a redhead with pale skin that does not tan, so based on this thread I just ordered St. Tropez self tanner. I typically use Clinique instant bronze, I don't think it has turned me orange but the color is pretty subtle. I also have done the whole "spray tan" or airbrush tan. The results have been mixed - most of them were too dark and all of them made my chest, shoulders and back splotchy. It's hard to explain, I have freckles but the airbrush tan like maximized the freckles about 200% and made them very dark. Usually, with the self tanner I apply at home the freckles blend into the tan and you can hardly tell I have them. So that was one thing that I didn't like about the spray tans.

Anyway, I'll repost again and let you know how the St. Tropez worked for me, just in case there are any other girls out there who don't tan and/or have red hair!

i got fake bake the other day and i think it is brilliant.... really true colour. wasn't too highly priced either ( £20 ) i have also heards good things about lancome airflash though... i might give it a try.... oh the joys of shopping, lol :D

Bumpity.

I'm on the look for a good self tanner as well. Being white-skinned is not too attractive in the Summer, and I refuse to tan. So, yes..

Anybody tried Clarins self tanners? Do they work?

ive been using st.tropez foam, its ok with one layer, but when it starts to fade and i reapply, it makes me oranger somehow with this second coat,
also it makes my skin look a bit dirty

i think im gonna try this lancome flash bronzer, everyone seems to rate it

Personally, I'm against those self tanners. I go for solarium. Take just 6 minutes a day 2-3 times a week and you will be perfect tanned without becoming orange.

I have heard good reviews on the Clarins Self Tanners but you can check a great site for product reviews:

Solariuns ruin your skin as much as the sun, so it´s better to use a self tanner than use one. ;)

Solariums are about 3x more harmful for you than real sun tanning. They seriously increase the risk of skin cancer. By the time you're 40, you're likely to look like you're 60. :(

I'm REALLY against Solariums.

You know, I've ditched the self tanners and just simply bronze when I'm going out. Could it be that I just don't care about being dark anymore? Maybe.

^Good choice. Personally, I think fake tans can look very fake and ugly.

Nutrogena Build-A-Tan. There's such little dye in it, that you can really control how tan you get, and it's alot less noticable when you screw up.

Hey, hopefully someone can answer this. I was going to make a topic but I figured I would just post it here..

Okay, I have freckles, pale skin and red hair. Great combination eh? :\ haha. Yes, it sucks. But anyways..

I want to try self tanning, because I don't tan in the SLIGHTEST bit. In the summer, I burn, then peel, and then get freckles EVERYWHERE. I want to have a little 'tan' or just be a tad darker. But if it's too dark, with my hair/complextion, I'd look like a complete idiot.

So is there any 'light' tanners out there that would work with my skin tone and hair color? I wish I could see some before & after pictures of self-tanning w/ redheads.
