Best Self-Tanners

I would say they are all fool proof. I never tried the foam, but seems messy.
I used the spray for my body, but you can't spray on your face, use the lotion for that.
The spray is good and it has that little foam sponge to dab away excess.
You will feel so healthy.
I found when self tanning with anything, don't rub into your knuckles, toes, elbows knees etc...I dab extra moisturizing lotion on those areas, so they don't get dark. When you go to do areas like hands, just use the excess and glide over gently.

the problem with all these self/fake tanners is that the active ingredient which makes u orangy/browny/tanned looking, is the same! (DHA i think is the name of the compound)
anywhos, so the only difference in these products is stuff like the consistency of the cream/gel, way you apply it, if it contains chemical exfoliants e.g. salicylic acid, the percentage of DHA...

what i am saying is that ultimately it all comes down to the same ingredient which makes you colour and so you will ultimately achieve the same/similar colour...
(i would definitely not suggest packing on the fake tan because that just makes you look super orange - at least in my experience)

i used to use this spray biotherm self tan for the body, that was quite good.. but again the same slightly orange tinge...

i now just use those bronzing creams when i feel the need to be dark - u know the ones which come out of the tube looking almost black, u rub it into your skin and you look tanned until the next time you shower?
i find these better because you have better control, the colour is instant, no hassles with maintaining and exfoliating all the time and there are no problems - if you make a mistake you can just wash it right off.

Favourite Fake Tan

What is your favourite brand of fake tan? There are so many to choose from, what is the one you cannot live without?

I  St Tropez (mousse or lotion), and Model Co Tan in a Can

I like St Tropez (mousse or lotion) the best. It is expensive, but is so easy to apply, dries quickly so you don't have to wander round naked for 3 hours or blow-dry your body :D, and isn't as orange as the others (contains a green pigment to counteract the effect). Model Co tan in a can is also good (it comes in a hot pink airbrush can with white writing. It's a cult item here in Australia, and i think it's a available in Saks in the US)

I'm not a fan of the wash off bronzers as they get all over your clothes and bed sheets (if you're too tired to shower when you get home...).

Has anyone found any brands that do a good job without being too stinky? Or is that just inevitable. I find even the after showering, i can still smell it coming out of my pores for a day or so. Ergh.

California North, supposedly doesn't smell gross at all. It was on the Today Show, here in the US...which does say alot.
You can read about it on www.dermadoctor.com and look under self tanners in the drop down menu in "conditions".
This site knows ALOT, so I am sure it is legit. I have heard of other people loving it.

I use Johnsons Holiday Skin Body Lotion and also the one for the face.
It only has a little tan ingredient mixed in with normal moisturiser. I find it great, cause i have pale skin naturally (and normal fake tans make me go orange), so i just put it on like moisturiser and it builds up a nice natural looking tan in a few days.
I always get compliments on how nice my skin looks - and most people think i am naturally tanned now too! i love it!

Unfortunately I'm allergic to loads of fake tans, but it means I've tried most of them ;)

Cheap: L'Oreal Sublime Bronze
Pricey: Lancome Flash Bronzer
Powder: Benefit Hoola

I like the colour St. Tropez gives but I think it wears off terribly - I always end up looking like I have leprosy

I started doing the fake tan thing again! I'm tired of being white for the moment. ;) I just hate the upkeep.

*WARNING SPRAY SELF TANNERS*

I highly recommend rubbing in the spray on self tanner thought it says that it is not necessary. I never had a problem with streaks but I sprayed down my boyfriend the night before his play performance and it streaked BAD!

I'm part Mexican, so I've already got a bit of a natural tan but my one from the summer has faded and I feel so pale. With Christmas break coming quick, though, I think I'm going to try the Jergens one by reading all of your reviews. I want to test it out when I don't have to go to school the next day, in case it turns out horrible! ;)

fake bake is really good!!! when you apply it, it looks muddy, so you can tell if you've missed a spot or not it indicates where you have apllied and wherey ou havent. must give it a try, it doesnt look orangey too looks SO healthy! <3 i am planning to get more of it +D

I made some mini-reviews of self-tanners I've liked..

I dislike Neutrogena Instant Bronze (sooo impossible to not stain hands, or get an even tan) and the milky lotion of Clarins (smells horrible and is too orange). Likes:

seltan1.jpg
This Clarins gel self tanner was intended for the face, but I used it on my body and it was subtle, light brown and a light scent. I like the gel consistency as well, compared to a sticky cream.

This Sally Hansen airbrush self tanner is cheap, but the color turns out really pretty and golden. The cons: it's really a hassle trying to get your whole body, and when you finish covering it with the mist, the room stinks up with (and you have to breathe) a very strong sunblockish/self-tannerish smell. Also, to make sure it's blended, you should rub yourself with a towel or hands (then wash them).

The Lancome Flash Bronzer (highly praised in this thread apparently!) makes the best initial color, but it has shimmer in it (atleast the version I tried). I'm also unsure of how long the color lasts. It seems like the type to be good for one night and then washes off.

I`m Skin-Type 1 (=palest skin), I have sun-allergy and now take Antibiotics for Acne-Treatment, so any sun-contact is prohibited for me

But I`m so damn white & ill-looking AND SICK OF IT!

What can I do? I thought about buying Nivea Self Tanner for light skin but I`m concerned that the aggressive Peelings & Face-waters I use on my face twice a day (for the Acne) will "wash" the Tanner off - a tanned body with a white face (or a face with streams..) would look ridiculous...or should I leave the face off because I always wear Make-Up anyway?

Please help! I`m in total despair

If you do use those peelings, then I don't think a self-tanner would work out very well. It's also annoying when it's used on your face and it absorbs into any broken or dry skin. Not to mention the horrible moustache look that can happen . I suggest using self-tanner on your body but just a bronzer on the cheeks (MAC has a good one).

Self Tanners

hi everyone :flower:
I think? this is in the right section :innocent:
so i'm feeling (and looking) a little pale. I've been a little bit iffy about using a self tanner...blotches...streaks...orangyness....but I was wondering if there is anyone here that has used a self tanner, if you would recomend it (or recomend the product) or wouldnt recomend. oh, and if anyone has tried a Mystic Tan, how that turns out as well.

if anyone could help me out with this, that would be great. :flower:

My post on best self tanners is right up there ^, and I've tried a Mystic. You can choose the level so it's not too orange. I sometimes can't stand the smell..but you could try it. Also, you have to watch about the blocking creme (for hands and feet) and make sure you wipe it off when you get out. Ah, and breathing in the spray really bothers me. ;)

The absolute best thing to use, is the daily moisturizer Natural Glow, that has a little bit of self tanner in it. Because you use it every day, its generally foolproof, and at the end of the week, you look like you were in the Carribean instead of New England (where I am). I apply every day after my shower, immediatly put on my towel and then finish getting ready. Just be sure to wash your hands or you will have orange streaks in betwen your fingers. Its the BEST, I swear by it.

Thanx for the tips since I've never fake tanned before. But since I have an olive complexion, do you reckon fake tan looks ok on me?

i have semi olive skin... st tropez looks a little olive.. and I thought it looked extremely natural on me, best of luck!

lostinemotion- I have very fair, Irish, skin....do you think that St. Tropez would look too orange?
