Beyonce's House Of Dereon Line

i saw her website ...cloth
es are FUGLY!

The funny thing is, as with all these celebrity based lines, it is going to make a ton of money and make everyone involved extremely happy. So my point is these things are done for a reason and that reason is very powerful. Money, money, money honey.

Adding to the mix of what makes these things so profitable is that sometimes , for example J-lo, addresses to some degree in terms of fit in certain garments such as jeans, shall we say different needs of women that are not a size 2 or 4, with fuller proportions.

The fact that Beyonce is a black, attractive, and super talented is appealing to women of color.

And I've skirted the issue, but lets just say it, she's "bootylicsious" and young women that aspire to that wil make this brand a BRAND! And thats good for Beyonce

I just think of it as just another celeb line that won't last long. It may sell to the masses but any real person in the fashion industry knows this is nothing to be taken seriously.

Being taken seriously doesnt always pay the bills. Believe me I know.
At the same the insiders do pay attention and watch these guys to some degree. My biggest example is Baby Phat. Why are all these people paying attention, cause some real heavyweights in the business section of the industry really are. And the business section whether we like it not is what all this is about selling products, not making art. That is why when we see designers doing really unique clothing and they are able to make a real business, grow and push their influence further ( CDG for example) we applaud them.

Also, dont discount that word of mouth factor. I know and exec at a very big menswear magazine, has a great blazer from H&M he tells me. He loves it and will continue to keep eye on their menswear. His girlfriend got it for him I think. I know fashionistas that will pick up something from a name that they do not usually cator to but a friend told about a piece thats to die for.

I also remember a few seasons ago how many people right here at TFS commented on how surprised they were with Baby Phat. It definatly turned some heads and I bet they got some new costumers that season.

"House of Dereon"...

Where's the Fashion "House"?
lmao

It's Downtown Houston (I drove by it Friday taking a shortcut), a yellow house close to 59S. It's gated and has House of Dereon at the top in Black Letters.

The only thing that annoys me is when the word "couture" is freely swung around.

Also, I think some people are "called" to do a certain thing eventhough they may flourish in many things. I have no problem with celebrities doing their own line as long as they are serious versus trying to supercede their already huge status. What more do they need/want? I'm not saying that the Knowles are doing this, but some just try to take on too much, too quickly. And they fall. Stick to your true gift.

Also, Tina COULD use a little internship somewhere I believe. ^_^

Ha I was just joking. But really? Sorry I'm a little ditzy right now.

Im telling u guys, there HAS to be a World's Fashion Foundation and they should hold tests on possible candidates to see if they are worthy enough of becoming designers. If this was already happening now, there would be absolutely NO celeb designers AT ALL!

I think that House Of Dereon Line is Beyonce's mother brainchild and only using Beyonce to sell the line. It seems the mother lives vicariously through Beyonce.

eewww Id appreciate it more if they just called it Bootylicious or something hahaha really its better than something that nobody knows about.. But hey its backed up by Beyonce, sadly...

Dereon is the last name of Tina's mother. I suspect it's French Creole considering Tina's mother is from Louisiana.

Harumi, you can make commentary on her line all day long, but who give a flyin f...... Beyonce is still PAID, PAID and PAID again and really thats the bottom line.

The bottom line is also that she is doing quite well with her collection (guess her clothing line doesn't need anybody little chump change on tfs to be profitable - oh, well) and her Gorgeous Black Bomber jacket is featured in the September issue of Lucky Magazine, when ya get a chance, pick up a copy! Cheers!
:D I totally agrees with you on that

I wasn't a big fan of the line, but I was watching the Tyra Banks show and their was a House Of Dereon fashion show, Mercedes from ANTM modeled a outfit that I liked. I went the House Of Dereon website and they haven't updated it with the new clothes....How disappointing...

stars being designers is WRONG!
they don't study, they probably know about fashion no more than what they see in some fashion shows twice a year, and they think that being in the best dressed TOP 50 let's say People magazine, makes them sort of a trendsetter that can actually design what people are gonna wear?!
wrong!

How many talents can one person show they have before the general public starts to hate them? :flower:

I'm waiting for the first one to manifest, in this case :innocent:

Let's keep things in perspective. Everyone knows that celebrity lines do not equate to that celebrity sitting somewhere sketching, draping and/or designing outfits. For the most part some company approachs a star about starting a line because it would be win-win for all involved. They have a built in brand. The design team comes up with concepts and the celebrity gives final approval. The celebrity may even come up with a theme or idea for the collection and the team designs and the celebrity approves.
This is exactly what Kate Moss is going to be doing for TopShop. What's the difference? She's a model? She doesn't have any design training.

But don't get me wrong, I am also annoyed by the celebrity lines but mostly because of all of the undue extra publicity that I have to hear and see especially during NY fashion week where they all present their lines.
