Beyonce's House Of Dereon Line

Some of the simpler (sp?) peices I really like. The black dress on the model third from the left in the first picture above, I could see myself wearing. But the rest of it just looks trashy to me.

Chicago vs House of Dereon

Unless you've got something nice to say to Beyoncé and her mother about B's new clothing line, don't say it at all. Such is the lesson the media learned last week during a junket in Chicago.

When the singer debuted her House of Dereon line in Second City, she was all smiles — until one reporter asked her and her mother about a potential problem with the line. What should have been a big day for B immediately went sour, and now the incident is living on as viral video.

Beyoncé and Tina Knowles were in Chicago on Thursday and Friday to launch House of Dereon's first boutique, housed at Macy's on State Street. They were also gearing up for the line's first runway show, at Macy's Glamorama fashion extravaganza, which benefited the Art Institute of Chicago. The Glamorama event also featured nine other designer collections — including Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, D&G, Just Cavalli and Badgley Mischka — and perhaps those more established designers would have been better equipped to handle hard questions. But Beyoncé and Tina didn't seem to have a strategy in place to either deflect or field difficult questions, as Beyoncé kept smiling blankly while her mother played guard dog.

At the Thursday press junket, WBBM-TV consumer reporter Dorothy Tucker started off with a few softball questions, such as "Why did you choose Chicago?" and "Who is the line for?" Tina Knowles responded that Chicago had always been a "very supportive" city, while Beyoncé responded that her clothing line is for "everyone: the working woman, the teenager, the trendy woman." "Obviously I can wear it, my mother can wear it," she said. "It just celebrates three generations of style."

Which led Tucker to her next question, somewhat disproving Tina's thesis that Chicago was supportive and Beyoncé's belief that any female could wear her clothes. "They're beautiful [clothes]," she started, "but the next question — I don't quite understand it, and maybe you guys can explain it for me — your clothes are sold in about a dozen stores in the Chicago area. We did get a phone call from a couple of those stores who said they had to send the production back, that there was a poor fit, the tops weren't ..."

As soon as Tucker started raising the concerns she'd heard from local retailers, Tina Knowles cut her off — and asked that the videotape that had been rolling be cut off as well. "Why would you — wait, wait, wait — we're going to cut that off. Why would you do that? You're here to interview us about the clothes, in a positive light."

Tucker persisted. She said she'd spoken with boutique owners such as Allyson Masters of Impressions in Wheaton, Illinois, who had told her that the tops she received were sized wrong. Since the retailers hadn't been able to get a response from the company, Tucker tried to get one for them. "It doesn't make any sense," Tucker continued, "because I'm looking at the clothing ..."

But Tina Knowles had had enough. "Yeah, but I don't want to talk about that on the air," she said, as the tape cuts off.

A shortened version of the interview has cropped up on YouTube and has been making the rounds online. As for Masters, she told CBS that the problem would be easy enough to solve on her end: "That's all I'd like — larger sizes."

I think House of Dereon jeans are nice but I don't know how it feels like...
By the way is Beyonce 22-years old?

I remember when House of Dereon first got their items up on the website. I checked it out and I remember it being the most laughably awful 'collection' I had ever seen. :ninja: I guess if other people like it, that's good for them, but I know I won't be buying any of it. :flower:

the media is killing their line with mockery of the clothes and the attitude! i haven't seen any of the clothes except the ads in vouge with beyonce and her mom ! the ad seemed out of place to be honest! i almost thought it is impossible for a piece of clothing to reflect low quality with all the air brushing and professional photography in one of the most known fashion magazines but somehow the clothes just seemed bad!

$$$ talks and Vogue loves $$$ --- 50-70% of what they use in editorials are advertisers' pieces ....

well thats life, strike a pose.

the clothes in the adver didn't look good. tina and beyonce are not designers.for me, when i think tina and beyonce and clothes at the same time, i think of their stage costumes and the funky un-fashionable clothes they wore to the awards and said,'my mom designed it'

I think Tina is more of a tailor than a designer and just because you can make dresses doesnt mean you're a designer. Let's see if it get's better .

Agreed on all points, except that Baby Phat's SS07 outdoes it for being awful. :D

:D i agree with that i think the same thing

I think the line is just plain old average, it's simple, not too heavy. The orange dress rocks! I wouldn't really call this "celeb turning designer". It's Beyonce's mum, so I think she has a good chance.

Although I find it irritating when celebrities become fashion designers, it's hard to say whether or not Beyonce and her mother have always wanted this. Her mom certainly shows a history with it. Because of Beyonce's fame, I'm sure their interest in fashion seemed like something they could do commercially because of her income. They had the money to fund it.

I can't say that I only want to do one thing with my life. I want to be a designer, a fashion journalist, a furniture designer, a linguist, and an architect. I think it would be fun to open my own restaurant, hotel or modeling agency. I could go on and on and on with things I'd like to do with my life. If I could, I'd conquer them all, but it would cost quite a bit of money.

We only live once, so in some respects, I see why Beyonce is doing more than one career. She's young. She's loaded. And what girl can say she isn't interested in fashion? Granted, her idea of fashion isn't agreeable with a lot of people who follow runway, but it is her own style, and she shares it with a lot of people.

She's a great business woman. She knows that by labeling things with her name, they're going to sell, and she's going to make good money.

I would never buy any of this, but there are people out there who do enjoy this style. Beyonce and her mother recognize this, and they see the money oppurtunities it's going to bring.

hanni, the pic you posted is of her sister Solange. I remember hearing that they were going to have a junior/less expensive line for the Beyonce fans who can't afford the stuff from the main line. Don't remember all the details cuz I didn't care, but the sweater dress Solange is wearing is from that line.

Harumi, you can make commentary on her line all day long, but who give a flyin f...... Beyonce is still PAID, PAID and PAID again and really thats the bottom line.

The bottom line is also that she is doing quite well with her collection (guess her clothing line doesn't need anybody little chump change on tfs to be profitable - oh, well) and her Gorgeous Black Bomber jacket is featured in the September issue of Lucky Magazine, when ya get a chance, pick up a copy! Cheers!

IS HOD doing well?? I want to like this stuff so badly, but it all looks cheap or over-the-top (and not in a good way). So I thought, "Ill get some HOD jeans and wifebeater", cant go wrong with that, eh? But Ive never seen it anywhere, and I cant buy jeans off the the net that Ive never even seen IRL. And something about the beater even urked me, cant remember what it was exactly.

And do you guys know that HOD (Tina) is branching out to high-end handbags??

$395

Ehhhh......no thanks.

Beyonce has a wonderful singing voice (which she horribly abuses with hip-hop), and she should just stick to that.

Her mother's designs are so ugly, and i hate what I see from this line. I didnt even want to have this thread on my UserCp
